I just wish Rob that there was some tiny bit of evidence that you are right and that Randy Lerner would not just leave us hanging in the wind to be devoured by lesser clubs in the season ahead, but there is no scrap of information to give us hope and we have only our gut feelings to fall back on. Those and the piecing together of what miniscule clues there are to what is going on in the owner's mind.  My own intuition suggests that there was a buyer of sorts around about the time of the Chelsea win and Randy decided to get rid of us.  For whatever reason that buyer backed off but the die had been cast and the quiet seamless negotiated sale became the current PR catastrophe.

In an attempt to be positive I think the months up to Christmas will be the worst before the depth and character of Aston Villa starts to assert itself and with or without Lambert, Keane or Lerner, we, the fans will start the long march out if this bad, dark place.

Bad dark place? You talking about the opening away day of the season?

I've never not looked forward to a season starting as I am this one.

Usually at about this time I'm thinking, ''great 2 weeks and the footballs back.''  This year it's ''oh shit, 2 weeks and the footballs back.''

If I'm honest, my falling out of love with football is nearly complete.  It's just that the Villa have meant so much in my life, growing up, focal points etc that keeps me in any way interested.

That will always be the case but Jesus wept, a combination of Sky 4 wankfests and Lerner has done his best to knock it out of me.

Same.

After the past few years of long decline Lerner finally seems to have just pushed the joystick forwards so we are in a full on nose dive.

It is pretty hard to get excited for even less spending and yet another season of struggle.

Watching my club scrabble around in the mud for table scraps and cast offs from "bigger" clubs as we desperately claw at other losers to try and avoid the drop yet again is not much fun.

Absolutely sums it up for me too. No doubt we shall have 'twats various' telling us over the next few weeks what an exciting season lies ahead when in fact it's never been less exciting and appealing

Normally go to Walsall but just can't be added this time,I think we're all dreading the start of the season, every other team is strengthening and I can see quite a few embarrassing days ahead.

I'd normally be at Walsall, not this year. I am dreading this season. Feels like we've only just got over the last one and now it's happening again.

you're all right. Fuck the glass half full brigade. Things are bleak, Morrissey-esque bleak. But there are things to look forward to. A scowling Roy in the technical area might be worth the price of a discounted ticket alone. Even better, Roy  as captain at the wheel of the good ship Villa as it bobs seemingly rudderless on a stormy premiership sea would make for great football soap opera. Marvellous!

Enjoy each day over the next two weeks as if it's your last. Enjoy the freedom, taste the air, feel the breeze on your skin, and smile. In less than two weeks it's all going to change.

Bloody heck you lot, this place is almost as bad as sitting in a cold dark room listening to Leonard Cohen. :(

Reasons to be cheerful 123........
1. IF we are relegated in nine months time we will be the biggest and best supported Championship club.
2. With a bit of luck SHA will be relegated too so we wont have to play them.
3. We scrape into the play offs thereby getting a day out at Wembly.

You want a day out at Wembley? Who are we? Carlisle or someone?

I'm not even bothering with the Parma friendly. Looking forward to kick-off at Stoke and trying to delude myself that everything will be alright.  I've got a feeling Lambert will be the first managerial casualty.  I honestly thought we'd hit rock bottom at Spurs on the last day. Based on pre-season, maybe the worst is yet to come.
