I would literally be ashamed to be a Brummie supporting Chelsea fan. The thought makes my skin crawl. How would you ever expect to be taken seriously when talking to your friends about football?

That's the thing about Brummie Reds or Chelsea fans, or any sort of gloryhunter.

I always find myself thinking: have you no dignity or self respect?

How can you do something like that and expect to be taken seriously?

I refuse to talk to them about football, I honestly see their opinions as null and void. They know nothing about what it is like to be a football fan, they chose success, as far as I am concerned, they have no right to discuss the game.

I hate them. I'd rather my kids grew up as noses than Brummie Reds, and it's not even close, I'm talking 100 times prefer it.

I know it sounds childish from a grown man, but I am honestly not even exaggerating slightly. I am exactly like you, they really make my skin crawl.

I listen to some North American football shows and nothing is more repulsive as the 25-30 yr old "lifelong" Chelsea or Man City fan from Seattle or Minnesota or Atlanta etc.

Me also, but I started to think the other day of those poor souls who have been pushed into gloryhunting by their gloryhunting father.

My two cousins are Liverpool fans because my uncle Harry was a gloryhunter himself, and a lad I used to play football with used to follow United everywhere with his Dad, and had done since he was a boy.

Where do we stand on these 'daywalkers'?

I'll always have respect for anyone supporting their local team.

hypercritical of me ?

Something from twenty years ago is as true today:

When you're Wayne or Baz from a shitty estate in a shitty town. When your life consists of working in a warehouse all day and watching TV at night. When all you have to look forward to is getting smashed in town 50 weekends of the year, doing the same with added sunburn for the other two weeks and marrying Waynetta from the next street and raising kids to have the same as you. When you're nobody, your life is empty and your prospects are non-existent you do two things. You buy a small car with a big exhaust and a Manchester United shirt.

I actually became a Villa fan because I was glory hunting, believe it or not. I had no allegiance in 1990 and really only just became interested in football. I had three potential avenues, be a Liverpool fan because most of the kids in class were and my dad was (though he has absolutely no interest in football), be a Villa fan because I liked the kit and my best friend supported them. Or be a Wolves fan because  I liked the kit and the little wolf badge.

In the end Liverpool was never an option because I hated all the kids who were fans. I chose Villa because they were second in the table, so obviously were going to bring a great deal of success with them. Ha ha. It hasn't been all smooth sailing granted but we've had another second place finish, two trophies (fuck it 3, I'm counting the Peace Cup...does the Intertoto have a trophy?), a fourth place, a 5th, and a good wedge of 6th place finishes, and a couple of cup finals (albeit slightly painful) in my time.

That said most of these plastic Chelsea fans would jump ship if Abramovich left and they regressed to being a mid-table side. In terms of plastic fans I think Chelsea are the worst. They'd be without question the quickest to turncoat.

In my experience I've seen all too many Chelsea fans split into two categories. The plastic knobbers who've only been interested since 2004. They have absolutely no clue about football half the time and say ridiculous things like this end of a bell. Total and utter ignorance.

Then there's the long termers. The ones who fink they're salt of the fakkin Earth. Probably closet, or proud and out EDL members and think pricks like Dennis Wise and JT are working class heroes. Because they've seen their club almost go bust, or go years without winning anything they fink they've automatically been bestowed with the greatest humility. The reality is they're peacock strutting, chest puffing, arrogant gobshites most of the time who still fink football's like it was in the 70's, waiting for scraps and skirmishes that more often than not won't happen, unless they're playing their ignoramus equivalents from perhaps QPR, West Ham or Millwall who fink their pwoper 'ard. Wankers.

Put them all on a boat and send them somewhere...anywhere...The North Pole or somefink.

In my experience, living in West London, there is a 3rd category: blokes my age (50) who are more like Fulham fans. They lived through all that crap in the 70s and 80s and were like Fulham fans in that they treated their club as a vaudeville act that was too painful to take seriously. They now enjoy the success of the club but often can't afford tickets for more than a couple of low importance games per season. Finals and latter stage Champs league games are just a night on tv for them, with no chance of buying a ticket.
