In my experience I've seen all too many Chelsea fans split into two categories. The plastic knobbers who've only been interested since 2004. They have absolutely no clue about football half the time and say ridiculous things like this end of a bell. Total and utter ignorance.

Then there's the long termers. The ones who fink they're salt of the fakkin Earth. Probably closet, or proud and out EDL members and think pricks like Dennis Wise and JT are working class heroes. Because they've seen their club almost go bust, or go years without winning anything they fink they've automatically been bestowed with the greatest humility. The reality is they're peacock strutting, chest puffing, arrogant gobshites most of the time who still fink football's like it was in the 70's, waiting for scraps and skirmishes that more often than not won't happen, unless they're playing their ignoramus equivalents from perhaps QPR, West Ham or Millwall who fink their pwoper 'ard. Wankers.

Put them all on a boat and send them somewhere...anywhere...The North Pole or somefink.

In my experience, living in West London, there is a 3rd category: blokes my age (50) who are more like Fulham fans. They lived through all that crap in the 70s and 80s and were like Fulham fans in that they treated their club as a vaudeville act that was too painful to take seriously. They now enjoy the success of the club but often can't afford tickets for more than a couple of low importance games per season. Finals and latter stage Champs league games are just a night on tv for them, with no chance of buying a ticket.

Prices at some of these London clubs now are utterly flabbergasting.

Something from twenty years ago is as true today:

When you're Wayne or Baz from a shitty estate in a shitty town. When your life consists of working in a warehouse all day and watching TV at night. When all you have to look forward to is getting smashed in town 50 weekends of the year, doing the same with added sunburn for the other two weeks and marrying Waynetta from the next street and raising kids to have the same as you. When you're nobody, your life is empty and your prospects are non-existent you do two things. You buy a small car with a big exhaust and a Manchester United shirt.

Gloryhunters are everywhere, in all walks of life and not just the folk doing the jobs and living in the estates we look down our noses at. My stereotype of a gloryhunter differs from yours as I see picture them being some well off Malcolm Smuggeridge from a twee estate in a twee town working in recruitment or finance and poring over their fantasy league team.

My experience of Brummie reds is that they have a soft spot for Small Heath. Presumably as we are seen as more of a rival. I have had a number of them who wouldn't dream of actually going to Old Trafford let alone the sty attempt to take the piss when United beat us and then again when the noses beat us. Trust me, I tell them where to go. I think it was Paulie who said "Have they no shame?". We all know the answer.

Percy's theory holds true. Brummie Reds are often from Nose families; they lack the moral fortitude to 'ave their 'earts broken but family loyalty prevents them from supporting us.

A lot of those Man Ure Gloryhunters must now be well confused now though.

Maybe they'll wait to see who Fatboy Slim's missus supports next year - Man City most likely - before they decide who to switch too.

Then again that team that play in All White in Spain are pretty good and cheap flights are aplenty nowadays.

I fucking hate gloryhunters.

On the what version of the European Cup was tougher to win debate, something else to add.

When we won it they didn't rig the draw with seedings.

It was so easy to win back then that Manure and Chavski were never in it.

I have more respect for Birmingham City fans than Brummie Reds or Brummie Cockney Blues.

I agree.

Totally.

Me too.
Count me in.

I know a Bluenose, one who openly admits hating us more than he loves them, who still hates Brummie Reds more than us.

I think any 'true' fotball fan would be of the same opinion about that subspecies of humanity.

The class of '82 always say the hardest thing about winning the EC was winning the league the year before & that's good enough for me!

Crawley comes readily to mind from a selection of places in my vicinity...though thankfully not too close

I always thought it was James Nesbitt who was the arbiter of gloryhunters' opinions...
