As I say, I stand firm by what I say. People who continue to support Lambert are doing nothing to support the club. It's like giving your backing to Yono's unwanted influence on the Beatles; it'll just in tears.
This is plain silly. Most of us backed Lambert to start with and with time we have changed out mind. People who still back him are every right to do so.
Maybe, but they are completely wrong. And nothing will prove me wrong.

So you're saying that someone who might not have missed a game for decades, who has travelled around the world following the Villa and who would give the club their last penny aren't supporters?

What I don't understand about the press is that at the start of the season they were making a massive song and dance about how few Burnley had scored.  It was mentioned in every sentence uttered about them.

We're now in a position where they're one goal away from having scored double our tally and whilst it gets a bit of a mention about us every now and again the press put it down to bad luck as Lambert's such a good manager in their eyes.

Maybe, just like his mentor, Lambert is going for the "the Press' darling" approach.

Lambert is the ultimate yes man, never says a bad word against anyone, does as he is told, keeps his head down and barely mutters anything of note. It's not that the press love him, he's just so boring him and the club are a non entitity by and large.

Yes they are supporters, and credit to them all. But on this one, the support they are showing to the manager is not helping at all. Trying to justify his continued reign and supporting it is completely baffling, and whilst there are still people out there who accept him we will just plod on to oblivion.

There comes a time when you have to stop polishing a turd.

They're supporting the club in exactly the same way you are - by doing what they think best. It makes no difference at all what their opinion of the manager might be.

They've got the perfect right to support him if they want to. That's the way it works, we can't force everyone to see it as we do.

It is all a bit irrelevant, anyway. The number of people supporting him on this site is tiny, 7.6% according to the poll above. Focusing on the fact that a few people still support him strikes me as a bit pointless.

So what? It doesn't make them not Villa fans, it just makes them people who don't agree with you.

I'm says that the fans who continue to support Lamber-  the "Lambert Apologists" deserve relegation. I'll stand firm by this.

We're all pissed off, but this is bullshit.
And is almost identical to what brian was saying a few days ago.

I'm struggling to see the difference except somebody hasn't thrown their teddy out the pram.

Both were told that what they said as unacceptable.
Cheers Dave.

He has to go. Look at how that lot down the road in small heath have turned their season around by changing manager.
My worry is we will do a Wolves, Randy will eventually sack Lambert late in the season, and try and muddle through without a new manager to save money, and the club will end up falling a couple of divisions.

Back to the topic. Yesterday I was struck by two extremes. How crushed and dispirited Cleverley was and by contrast how fresh and invigorated Gil was.  I have come to suspect that not only do the players not like Lambert, they are scared of him. Too many of the players are so scared of making mistakes they never take a risk and that is why our football is so turgid and lack lustre. I have also come to believe that the (alleged) bullying culture started with him and his formation of the bomb squad was his punishment method. Lambert cannot get the best out of a squad which is easily good enough for mid table because his players hate him or fear him or both, in my opinion.
There was an interview with Helenius over here just after he'd spoken out about his depression.

When he was asked about his relationship with Lambert. His answer was that he respected Lambert because of his record as a player and what he'd done with Norwich, but he wasn't someone you'd ever be friends with.
When asked what that meant he replied with the following.

- NB. Not verbatim as I can't access the recording and can't find it online anywhere -

'Let me give you an example, I'd just come off the pitch after a reserve match, we'd won, I'd scored, felt like I'd played well, everyone was saying I must have man of the match and Lambert was waiting in the dressing for us.
As we were coming through the door he started giving me one of the biggest bollockings I've ever had. I still don't know what it was about.

He didn't speak to me for the rest of the week, ignoring me when he was at training. I wasn't the only one who got that. He's got what they call a Glaswegian temperament.'

When Lambert is finally sacked they had better move fast because there is almost no one left at the club capable of running anything. You'd have two coaches left with with no experience of anything really and Sid, who's a lovely chap but..

Founder of PL relegated? Now we can't have  that stain on the entire history of football as Sky viewers know it can we?
OK next time I am going to join the protest now that I am aware of this grave situation.

Protest all you like. I was there in 1967 and mind your manners!
Apologies steffo if it came over a bit abrupt but it was not particularly aimed at you. I have a dislike of stats/facts confined to premier league formation.

This site seemed to go down temporarily just now. I was hoping it was because Lambert had been sacked and it was a surge of people causing a crash.

Oh well another week, another cup exit on the cards.

Only back a few hours ago after going to Saturday's game - so forgive me for not reading back over the last 10 pages of this thread...
I go to the games to support my team Leighton, not the manager.
imho our current manager is inept, to quote olaf, and probably myself.

If I support the team it doesn't mean I fully endorse all the manager is doing.
I want the manager to be successful because he is the manager of Aston Villa Football Club - even TSM!
After two and a half seasons Lambert has proven to me, very reluctantly on my part, that he is not up to the job.

I struggle to cope with the concept of my team being relegated.
I think Lambert is doing a shit job. (but he's still the bloke who "mangages" and picks MY team for every game we play.
I am happy to protest in an appropriate way but I will not stop going to watch MY team simply because the current manager is shite.

What is it you want "lesser" fans, like me(?), to do?

Well based on everything we have found out about what has been going on behind the scenes it would not be surprising to find out that Lambert is awful at player management.

It might also explain why he seems to get less than the players are capable.

I just want him gone.
