I thought the appointment was uninspiring but was prepared to give him a chance. He blew that chance a long time ago and instead of getting rid they entered into talks to extend his contract- clueless.

If there was any evidence needed to see how totally out of his depth he is then today was the day.

We should fire him now. He has to go.
The talks to extend the contract show Faulkner doesn't get football.

Correct

I'm gutted it hasn't worked. Lerner should now be looking for his replacement.

Me too and I agree. However the club hired the man most of us wanted, after hiring a man nobody wanted. I have no idea, and am scared at the prospect at what the next person through the door will bring, but it's something that now needs to be done.
I think we've got to be ambitious to be honest. Fork out for a manager who's got a good reputation. Someone who can start building something to put in place and leave to a younger man in 2-3 years time. I guess to some extent, someone like Houllier, but better. Get us solid mid-table again, get us organised. I dunno who's around at the moment. There's a lot of guys being linked with moves to the Prem, like Van Gaal, Hiddink again, etc. Depending on who's left after the likes of Spurs snap them up, there could be someone half decent. Even AVB might be worth a go as we'd give him the freedom he hasn't had at Chelsea or Spurs. If he comes and does a year or two and excels, and wants to bugger off somewhere else, so be it, but we need to get back into decent shape. Though he's at Zenit now so will be getting paid a fortune.
We need a bit of nous.

I don't think we have people at the club to pull off an inspired young foreign appointment like Southampton. Nor do I trust them to pick a decent up and comer domestically.

We cannot think cheaply with our next manager. Pay enough and a good one will come.

I think we ought to set this whole thread  now to the tune of go now by the moody blues. One, two, one two three four , 'We've already said goodbye...'

an effective manager could get more out of them as a unit, I'm sure. With Lambert, we're doing worse than we should be doing with this squad.

I genuinely think he makes us look like less than the sum of our parts.

I also now genuinely believe that our decent results have mostly been despite Lambert, rather than because of him.

If there's no money to get excited about, said manager needs to have shown success of making silk purses out of sow's ears. Because if we survive (and this evening, I feel like that's a colossal IF), we're going to need a fantastic start next season to ensure we've got enough points by the killing season of March-May.

Yes, I think that's a fair comment.

That's been true for ages. I said months ago the man is thick and an idiot, nothing was more certain to me. I've met enough to know one pretty much as soon as I see one

I just don't get why the numbers at the top are so screwed to keeping him. Please, someone, tell me how he could be doing any worse than he is. How can anyone still want him here. U were all so quick to nail into big eck, be careful what you wish for...

If Lambert doesn't get the bullet at the end of the season, I genuinely don't know what he'd need to do to get sacked. Since when did the stated remit for the club become merely 'survival'?

I am absolutely convinced that these players are not as bad as they make themselves out to be under Lambert, just some structure and tactics would work wonders!

He has to go - surely no one can defend him now.

Lee B was telling me on here only last week how all his friends are happy with Lambert so perhaps he could find out from them and let us know?

There were loads doing so on here last week and I'm sure they wouldn't just let one game change their minds....not with all those injuries too. That would be so unfair
