According to my Auntie (by marriage) Peg well into her nineties and living in Castle Vale, not far from BE's mother I believe, the real life PB crew lived originally behind The Crown in Digbeth and spread from there up Heath Mill Lane to Garrison Lane. They were noses to a man and their big earner was the BSA and the jackpot was the vast amount of war work wages earned there by men and women with nothing to spend it on but to gamble. Billy (William) Hill was the Kingfish with Auntie Peg's brother in law Albert my late father in law his army dodging partner. A REAL scene from Birmingham bookmaking's criminal history was Albert's funeral at Robin Hood Lane cemetery. Not a fake Brummie accent to be heard on that occasion.

Interesting stuff. I only know what I've read in books like "The gangs of Birmingham" by Carl Chinn. I don't see any reference to Blues and I find it hard to believe they were noses to a man.
I just find it cringy how noses love to portray this image of being tough guys and gangsters!! The Peaky Blinders story has got nothing to do with Bham City or indeed football violence. It's just the writer being a blue nose couldn't resist the chance to give them a mention and in true "nose" fashion they have jumped on the idea of promoting themselves as "hard men" even in those days. I  suppose it shouldn't surprise me
but it does make me laugh.

It's so shit they have managed to get a third series commissioned.  I like it for its entertainment, and as someone said earlier the ways it is shot.  At the end of the last series, the decision to have no background music in the final scene when Cillian was on the verge of being shot and buried in a shallow grave was excellent.

Why is Mat Kendrick tweeting Tony Pulis shit? Like his pop picks. I associate Kendrick with Villa officially or unofficially. We already have that fucking cock Gregg Evans to give us a Baggie perspective of our club. I don't need Kendrick posting pics of the cap wearing penis as well. We seem to surrounded by them.

I think it's admirable that Tony has chosen to spread the message of safe sex through his attire.

Isn't it his job now to cover every team in the region? I don't think he solely writes about Villa anymore.

I thought the accents improved in the second series.

The absolute low point, though, was when that Helen Mcrory's character said "France" and pronounced it "Fraahnce"

Never in my entire life have I heard a Brummie pronounce it that way. I can't even bring myself to do it if I try, and my Brummie accent is pretty faint.

It's just not right.

Cilian Murphy to me sounds very much like John Lennon.

She was lighting candles in the church when Sam Neill's character walked in. He said something like "Are you lighting those for your nephews?". To which she replied "they're for the boys who died in France. You weren't in France were you?"

The first 'France' was as you said paulie, "Fraaarnce'. The second one she pronounced correctly like what we do. Like referees, it's the inconsistency that gets you.

Loved the show though, til the noses appropriated it.

I suspect in Mat's case he has had to take a step back. It must have been very difficult, being a Villa fan and having to report on that stuff, season after season. He is one of us and shouldn't be bracketed with some of the rest

From what I read the real Peaky Blinders were petty crooks and muggers based around Digbeth. The writer of Peaky Blinders transposed the 'real' gangster story of Aston's Billy Kimber and that onto the fictional Peaky Blinders gang to make them more interesting and 'big-time' than the bunch of grubby street youths robbing folk around Digbeth they really were.

Absolutely correct re: Billy Kimber. It is even set in his time, the twenties, whereas the PBs erm... peaked in the 1890s and didn't exist by the 1920s.

He's their football editor.

The Edge I am sure there were crooks in gangs who did not support Small Heath, I intended to convey that all the illegal street bookie's I have heard of personally from family members were blue noses and there is still a residue of them in my wife's side of the family like shit on a toilet bowl.

He talks like a prick (it's ALWAYS the refs fault). So looking like a penis with a cap on is him keeping in character.
