You're all mising the point I feel - being a football fan is about myths and legends - we want drama and Delph has given us that in spades so he is the pantomime villain (not a villan!) in this piece and will be roundly booed and hissed for ever more - it's a lark isn't it...

I can solve this very simply.

Fuck him, he doesn't play for us anymore

I have no problem wishing it him either - because I don't and never will. He lied to us, he took us for fools and I hope he never plays again.

For someone who generally talks with so much reason and sense, it's pretty sad to hear you come out with stuff like that.

This was no master plan.  The fella changed his mind.  Let's get over it.

A few people on here are like a bunch of scorned lovers and to be honest it's rather embarrassing.

He signed a new contract last season which guaranteed us £8 million, when he could have gone for free. That's meant we got back what we paid for him and were able to purchase a replacement.

He did us some good service when here and as far as I know conducted himself impeccably and is a good character.

Yes he did say he was going to stay, a foolish mistake, but hey on reflection he changed his mind, and why wouldn't he, he's more than entitled to, probably offered double the money, a chance of winning a few things and playing in Europe, and playing with a much better standard of player.

After the farce that we've been for the last 4 years or so, no sane rational person would blame him.

Get over it people, I hate to say it but he's backed himself to succeed and gone on to bigger and better things, and I wish him the best.

Agreed

At the end of the day, he should have just kept his mouth shut and not turned it into the farce it was. He was good, but he wasn't that bloody good.

I would have had no problem with Delph if he had said that he was not going to sign a contract as I can understand a player wanting to get the best possible deal fro themselves.  What does upset me is when players try to manipulate a move during the course of a contract.

Having signed the contract, the worst possible thing for Villa was to have a release clause included.  people have said that at least it gave us £8m but without the stipulated amount but an agreement to consider bids from, say, CL clubs, we would have been able to sell him for something closer to the market value.  So, in whose interest was the release clause.

What really annoyed me is the bullshit he came out with about loyalty etc., etc., not once but twice.  As somebody mentioned earlier, it was playing with supporters emotions in the worst possible way.  He should have just kept his mouth shut and then, perhaps, his leaving would have been accepted far better.

He made himself look more of a fool to be honest.

Console yourself when Amavi is tearing up the league next year with the thought that Delph's £8m helped pay for that.

He changed his mind after 'that' video.  There's the problem, some people are so determined to be more sensible than everyone else that they're completely ignoring why people have a problem with this.  Let's break it down:

He's leaves on a free - most people are frustrated with the club for not getting him to sign a new contract earlier but most wish him well.
He signs the contract, releases the first video and then leaves in the summer but tells the fans that he didn't intend to leave but Man City right now is too good an opportunity to turn down -  some fans will be sour about it but most can understand.

What he actually did was tell villa fans, twice, that he was one of them and he was in it for the long haul, and then he fucked off and gave some nonsense about securing the future of his family.  Even if he did genuinely mean it when he chose to stay you don't record that video at that point, you stay, you let it come out in the press, you get all the feedback from friends, etc and then a week or so later, once you've heard all the arguments, you either go or you make the video. I don't think he's dumb enough to not know that was the right way to handle it so I'm convinced it was intended for some reason.  I also think the timing was so everything could happen whilst Sherwood was away, again that felt intentional.

Yes I get all of that.  But it still doesn't mean it was all about money.

And I think he only made one video?  I thought the second statement was pretty brief.  But a lot of media outlets attached comments from the first statement / video to it when reporting it.  I think.

I think you're attempting to defend the indefensible to be honest.  I'm doing my best to forget about the slimy little toe rag, but what he did was completely unforgivable.
