*engage OT Birmingham News thread mode*

Perhaps him and his Mrs took a drive around Manchester looking for areas they might live in, realised what a pokey little dump it is, and decided England's ninth biggest city didn't offer enough for them?

*disengage OT Birmingham News thread mode*

I imagine him and his Mrs spent an hour driving around listened to those dopey accents and thought not only can they not stand it but they weren't going to bring their kids up to sound like that.

To be fair I wouldn't go down the dopey accents route...

Most Birmingham isn't yam yam which we get tagged with.
We'll have no picking on yam-yams, thank you very much ;-)

I think our accents at least sound friendly, if a bit thick. Whenever I hear a Greater Manchestpool accent I assume I'm seconds away from being stabbed. Or buying a ticket from a tout. Or buying a ticket from a tout, then being stabbed.

Some people on here are looking real silly after these new developments.

I don't think you'll find anyone really cares if they do or they don't to be honest

I wonder if there's going to be a new record for deleted tweets and vile instagram abuse posts in one day?

I think there was an element of truth in the story, maybe he was embarrassed or shamed into a u-turn? Maybe he just thought it through & realised it's not the right thing to do now.

Either way, I think for both him & us it's good news.

It is possible that Delph discussed this possible move with City officials and heard something that didn't sound quite right. Mr Delph is after all a straight talking Yorkshireman and probably thought bugger it Im staying where I am, and bugger the money!

Or he phoned Geoff Boycott for advice and he said......bugger them!!

Whatever the reason, I'm very happy and may have had a little faith restored with FD and the world.
Not all footballers are money grabbing w@nkers.

Most are though.

No reason he can't get a pay bump here.

I don't understand why some supporters are surprised at the abuse he received yesterday. He came within a hair if doing exactly what he said he wouldn't do. The "change of heart/u-turn" is great but it shouldn't have even gotten to that point after his verbal commitment to the club in January against Bournemouth. He allowed the situation to escalate, considered taking his talents elsewhere and that was ten times more shameful than what a few silly fans posted on his Instagram.

Glad he's staying. But again, he negotiated the clause so he could leave and his wavering loyalty put him in a bad light. If Randy intervened that's even better, but a quick conversation with Scott or micah really should've sealed it. I'm not apologetic for being upset.

Maybe he did a list of the Pro's and Con's, and realised that yes he'd make shitloads more money, and get some medals, but this would mean nothing if he didn't actually do anything to actually earn them, by playing any football.

Then he figured he'd probably lose his place in the England team, and have to put up with being called a lying git by more or less everybody, just so he could not play very often for a club, whose fans and probably the management too, didn't really rate him in the first place

I don't think anyone who has posted on this thread look silly.  They gave vent to their feelings regarding being let down by the player and, the perceived incompetence of the club on many levels.  They're entitled to do that.

I posted earlier that I thought the thread should be locked as soon as it was known that he was definitely offski or having a medical because of all the strong feelings being expressed was a waste of energy.  I now feel it should be locked because he's staying, and I'm happy about that.  Let's move on to moaning about the quality of players we think will be coming in.

I wonder if all this began with the "chat" with Richards. Gets picked up by one media outlet, then others, not wanting to be left out and risk feeling their editor's wrath, start adding their own "apparently" slant, up to a point where one of them starts doing the maths and calculates that on the reporting timescale, he must be due a medical this weekend. All in all, nothing more than the pervasive trait of our press simply regurgitating each other's stories, and not bothering to do any actual work. If it turns out to be bollocks, then nobody, other than us lot, cares. If it happens, they get to say "told ya". There's been nothing from Villa, from City, from Sherwood, from Pelligrini, from the player, from his agent even. As for Villa taking down posters and amending website pages, given this thread as an example of the vitriol that seemed to be out there, can you blame them? I stand to be corrected on all this, but I'd prefer it if it came from someone with a better source than somebody who knows somebody whose mate works behind a counter somewhere, or of that ilk.

I'm just delighted he has said £2.5m pay rise, nah thanks, I've thought about it, but I'd rather play for the Villa
