I wonder if all this began with the "chat" with Richards. Gets picked up by one media outlet, then others, not wanting to be left out and risk feeling their editor's wrath, start adding their own "apparently" slant, up to a point where one of them starts doing the maths and calculates that on the reporting timescale, he must be due a medical this weekend. All in all, nothing more than the pervasive trait of our press simply regurgitating each other's stories, and not bothering to do any actual work. If it turns out to be bollocks, then nobody, other than us lot, cares. If it happens, they get to say "told ya". There's been nothing from Villa, from City, from Sherwood, from Pelligrini, from the player, from his agent even. As for Villa taking down posters and amending website pages, given this thread as an example of the vitriol that seemed to be out there, can you blame them? I stand to be corrected on all this, but I'd prefer it if it came from someone with a better source than somebody who knows somebody whose mate works behind a counter somewhere, or of that ilk.

I tend to agree that this is a strong possibility. There were never any quotes from named people or indeed any other hard evidence offered by any of the media reporting this story.

It was more of a "send three and fourpence we're going to a dance" syndrome.

was he ever as close as a medical and terms agreed or is this just media hyperbole? It would be very interesting to know how close to leaving he actually was.

oh im HAPPY, this morning I was really upset, but Fabian is staying and I now reassess my opinion on our forth coming season with more optimism, you guys saying he aint good enough for a top four club well, guess where we are going to finish Damn right....

if as a lot of Villa fans have told me how good the new kid is linking up with our captain we will be a force, Micah at the back with Clark/Okore Charlie Austin with Benteke up front, oh yes.

and I haven't had a drink yet, but about to put that right.

Alls right with my Villa World.

It is possible that Delph discussed this possible move with City officials and heard something that didn't sound quite right. Mr Delph is after all a straight talking Yorkshireman and probably thought bugger it Im staying where I am, and bugger the money!

Or he phoned Geoff Boycott for advice and he said......bugger them!!

Delph's next move should be a return to Leeds in about eight years time after he's just lead Villa to their third consecutive Champions League title.

Totally agree with you comments.

It would have been a massive decision for Delph to make after what he said when he signed his contract.  To then reverse that 24 hours later as some (lead by all the Villa loving media) are making out just does not sound credible to me.  The stick he would have taken from football fan and media about going to Man City would have taken quite a thick skin and I never thought Delph appeared to be that type of person.  Clearly, money and family security makes decisions easier to make but doe £100k v £70k (or whatever it is) that much more when the lower figure is still a huge amount to earn.  On top of that, to make this type of decision when your wife is expecting a baby any time now hardly makes it more believable that he was leaving.

With online media reports required 24/7, the reporters are taking calculated gambles on stories and in many cases at quite low odds.  One thing I have noticed more in the last week or so are newspapers quoting their source of information and in most case it is another newspaper.

I did not see one quote from Delph, his agent, Villa or Man City about him leaving and until such time as I do, I will put it all down to speculation because what else can I do, believe hearsay or worse, deliberately fabricated stories.

I am glad he is staying and it helps to restore a bit of faith that not all football is rotten to the core.

I'm just delighted he has said £2.5m pay rise, nah thanks, I've thought about it, but I'd rather play for the Villa

When you put it like that, the decision's a no brainer really

Maybe with a new baby due and City travelling the world in pre-season (Australia, Vietnam, home then off to Germany) he just decided the timing's not right for him.
Real life gets in the way of all our ambitions sometimes.
It's not as if he's struggling for money if he stays in his current job is it.
Whatever the reason, it's great news for us.

well partly YES,

but release clause should be a minimum of 50 MILLION, my reasoning that little shit sterling aint half the player our Captain is. and we need to show ambition and pay our England midfielder the going rate, Come on Mr Lerner.

Perhaps his statement "put the record straight" would indicate that the media reports were all a load of b******* all along.

Maybe he read this thread and it was one of the things that helped change his mind. I think he would have made a statement a lot sooner if there was nothing in it.

In any event it feels like a new signing - that's two big signings in a year Delph and Delph !!!!
