Question I have is, why the change of heart?
Maybe we've upped his package ?

The realisation that he would not be playing first team football, spend nine months getting splinters in his bum and watch his England career go to waste?

Wife has told him she would hate being anywhere near Manchester?

But did she say that when she was drugged up while giving birth?  Does she realize she is missing out on some extra house keeping? And a few more handbags.

Fantastic news. Now if we can add another quality midfielder, we'll have a very strong midfield.

Maybe I'm dreaming but, I wonder if he was half way up there and someone from the club rang him and said that the takeover was complete, come back quick.

A little bit of alleged light shedding from the Meaning Evil:

"The captain was 100% on the way to Manchester City this time yesterday but Villa officials say he had a complete change of heart.

Delph was due for a medical at City today after agreeing personal terms yesterday but he decided not to attend and stay at Villa."

I dont believe them. They are now inventing things to make their previous invention look less awful than it was.

Sorry what little credibility they had left is now gone in my eyes. They just make this shit up and I won't fall for it again.

I'm in Chichester and that's too bloody close to Manchester

Ah. Greater Manchester then.

I think Delph would have denied there was ever any intent to go to City if the papers had completely fabricated the whole thing

Looks like a lot of people owe the man an apology

He was off mate.. like dust off your hands, never look back, off. I'm just as happy as the rest of you that he's staying, but he was one foot out the door. I think we had every right to be as angry as we were. I'm glad he cleared up all the speculation but it seems like he brought all of this on himself.

Thanks for staying, but I could do without the fuggin around.

*engage OT Birmingham News thread mode*

Perhaps him and his Mrs took a drive around Manchester looking for areas they might live in, realised what a pokey little dump it is, and decided England's ninth biggest city didn't offer enough for them?

*disengage OT Birmingham News thread mode*

I imagine him and his Mrs spent an hour driving around listened to those dopey accents and thought not only can they not stand it but they weren't going to bring their kids up to sound like that.

To be fair I wouldn't go down the dopey accents route...

Like everybody else I am shocked and I don't know what to think. Perhaps he has been told information that we are not privvy to. Perhaps the takeover is imminent. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

Anyway Fabian Delph I am glad you are staying.

You will find other sites linking it with Randy apparently flying in...

That could be. It seems pretty well known that the 2 have a good relationship and Delph is meant to be very grateful to Lerner for his help during his injury rehab. It's meant to be why he agreed a new contract (seemingly with the clause) rather than walk away on a free in the first place.

Yep, while I'm becoming as critical of Lerner as many long term posters have been, he does seem to have a good relationship with the squad.

If anyone can stomach it have a look at when Delph goes up the steps at Wembley to collect the losers medals, him and Lerner have a proper embrace during it.

Edit: Let's hope it was truthful talk of either a takeover very soon or proper serious investment as Delph will not want to be fighting relegation battles anymore in his career.

Oh I'd feel free to do that, there's nothing quite as bad in my book as a broad Mancunian accent normally exhibited on holiday by some botoxed up tart trying to dress thirty years younger than her age with a false tan and normally called Janet.
