It's the size of the transfer that is a major issue given what we see everyday paid for far less significant players. That and the whole "I love you Villa, this is my club, thanks for sticking by me" stuff that was so proudly delivered. I don't have any issue with ambition but if you agree to a deal and ensure there is a very easy get out clause, then why go to such lengths to deliver the news and celebrate it? That's why it would feel like a bigger kick in nuts than it should.

I think everyone needs to stop losing their shit on here. On one hand, As things stand we have our club captain and player of the year who has told us 5 months ago he loves the club and is here for the long haul. On the other we have some BS mongering website desperate for clicks.

I was quick to get on his back about owing the club etc before getting an entire box of eggs on my face. Well im giving him the benefit of the doubt and before anyone else starts laying into him I reckon they should wait and see what happens.

My understanding is that Delph/his agent would only agree to sign a new deal if there was a 'get out' clause inserted of 8/10 million.

(He could have signed a twenty year deal - it wouldn't have mattered!)

The club could do nothing other than agree.

PS Didn't Delph say at the time that money wasn't the important thing for him?
So if MCFC offer 100k per week he'll no doubt turn it down!

Yep I think that's basically it.

Perhaps Fabian knows there are problems with the alleged takeover. Perhaps there isn't going to be a takeover at all. You might think he would be keen to stay if he knew there was going to be a big infusion of finance coming into the club. If it is true that he is going this might be the reason. No doubt he will be pleased to earn a lot of money and a medal or two by becoming a bit part player and professional bench warmer.

We shall wait and see. All will be revealed shortly I think.

how many games people think he will play for city depends entirely on how highly individual posters rate him

for me I think he's top class,
I've always believed really good players will  play better in better teams, ie when Delph stepped up to the England team it didn't take long before he looked at home at international level, not every player can do that as we have seen over the years

so I reckon he will continue to improve and like Barry did when he went to City and soon prove that he is well capable of a regular first team place
that's how highly I think of him

if you don't rate him that highly you will obviously think he will spend a lot of time on the bench, only time will tell

I just think, knowing the deal he had signed had this clause in it, the words he uttered in the days after it now look like some of the most duplicitous that you can imagine, if of course the reports are to be true. At least we made a healthy profit on Downing and Barry did a lot more for us than Delph has done. I accept that it better than getting nothing, but don't make the fuss if it is complete bobbins.

My take on it too.  Love with conditions isn't love at all.  If there is any truth in any of this he will make himself look pretty damn stupid. Does anyone know for certain there is such a clause?

True enough John and of course applicable to every player who signs for a 'bigger' club including for us - we've had a few who have made the transition successfully, though not as many as we would have liked I guess over the last five years

I personally think the get out clause is not that bad. Delph could have left for nothing, like the majority of PL footballers would have, but following his injuries thought nope I won't do that. He seems happy, has been made club captain and has said he's happy but we don't know what has been said to him (importantly) about our ambition during the contract negotiations. Hypothetically if the club doesn't keep it's end of the bargain and a top 4 club comes in for him and he fancies it and thinks he'll get in the team (because I can't see him not wanting to play regularly) fair enough. The price does seem low, in todays market, but if he was to move to a club outside the top 4 and the get out clause doesn't apply then I'm sure we'd get more money for him. He could have gone to anyone and we'd have got nish prior to him signing so at worst even if he does go we'll be better off than we could have been. For the record I do believe the glass is always half full (God knows how or why following us for so long)

I've read a few people saying delph should look at Sinclair and rodwell.

He should look at Barry and Milner. Both England central midfielders. I doubt either regretted leaving. I think delph could genuinely be as good as Barry. Not Milner though.

Yep, if true, it's the statement of affection for the club, talking about wanting to end his career here all that sort of stuff which is hard to stomach.

If this is true, how disappointing. 8 million? Deary me. If this is true, there will be no well wishes from me, Fabian.
All that talk of loving the club and your team being like brothers.....sigh.

It's not t a small amount of money, that's a fee for a decent player. Compared to going for free, it's good.

Sure, it's better than going for free. I just think 8 million is a lot less than what he is worth. Especially compared to some of the fees you see thrown around these days
