If we get Gueye I will be less concerned, still would be a pisser though.

Yep I agree, it's just if we do sign Gueye as a replacement then the two players we've pocketed so far have been direct replacements for one's who have left and we haven't actually improved the team yet, we did finish 17th and we desperately need some quality this summer.

If this is true, how disappointing. 8 million? Deary me. If this is true, there will be no well wishes from me, Fabian.
All that talk of loving the club and your team being like brothers.....sigh.

I think we'll just have to disagree.  It was a really big boost and has made us a lot of money too.

I know, I do appreciate something is better than nothing, it's just a body blow in footballing terms to lose your Captain a couple of months after he resigns.

I'm sure if we sign players of the calibre of who we are linked with, such as Amavi and Gueye then we will be much stronger next year but I don't like the image of our club losing it's Captain so quickly, I'd rather he stayed another season. New World order and all that I guess, we are in reality not attractive.

I agree completely with you.  I'm sure he intended to stay, but when City and the guaranteed silverware they offer come calling, it's a tough gig to turn down, even though it's a career wrecking move for many players.

It's not t a small amount of money, that's a fee for a decent player. Compared to going for free, it's good.

Be gutted if this happens especially after all the guff of loyalty and repaying the club & fans for the faith in him and support through long term injury. If he wants to bench warm his way to silverware and trouser a huge salary in the process that's his prerogative I guess. Modern football stinks

We were resigned to losing him in January before he signed the new contract.

I'd be disappointed to lose him - it's no surprise though - we've flirted in the bottom half of the league table for so long, that keeping players is going to be a challenge. See also attracting players - by all means, we should be a top half team. But we're not...

Sad fact is that there will always be clubs who will pay more and guarantee challenges for Europe.

he'll play games, win trophies, collect medals and trouser unimaginable sums of money ; to any footballer anywhere what's not to like?. It's the name of the game.

We'll see. I can't help feeling the main reason they would want him is - yes he's a good player - but he's English and they need homegrown numbers to meet ffp and to replace Milner - who did have a lot of games last season but he plays wider than Delph. If he's competing with the likes of Nasri, Silva, Navas and Toure for more central MF I don't think he'll get as many games. Time will tell

If he had just signed a contract and then left I would be ok with this. But signing a contract, then professing your love for the club and it being your home etc and then going leaves a bitter taste.

This. I just can't see it. I think somebody would have to make serious eyes at Delph for him to up and leave. He'd need to be convinced that he was going somewhere to be a regular starter and cement his place in the England side for the Euros, not just to improve his salary and make a few appearances n the Champions League. He's more sensible than that.

This really stings but we should be used to this sort of thing as unfortunately it's the type of club we've become, I don't mean that as a dig even the likes of Arsenal are susceptible to similar That will never change unless a mega rich owner takes over......
