If he had just signed a contract and then left I would be ok with this. But signing a contract, then professing your love for the club and it being your home etc and then going leaves a bitter taste.

This. I don't have an issue going to win trophies and earn a shit loads more dough. But you can't make that statement and not get stick. I won't give him stick but I'll understand it.

IF IT HAPPENS.

Speaking to one of the old Mail reporters on FB personally I think its a done deal and as soon as the Guaye deal is announced I expect them to announce the Delph departure. It feels like being dumped by your Mrs :(

We'll move on and Idrissa Gueye will be even better. Definitely. If it happens.

If he leaves it will confirm in my mind that he wanted to leave before he signed his new deal but no one came in for him. He was only convinced to sign a new deal because of a such a low release fee and the prospect of a nice wage boost in the interim.

Whose strategy is this to get our best players to sign new deals by adding low release clauses in them. The Benteke one was before Fox joined so im not sure - but it's an incredibly naïve tactic.

Delph would be a big loss so I hope there is no truth in these reports. Delph and Gueye would be a potentially awesome partnership in midfield (particularly after Cleverley moving on) and gives me a bit of optimism for next season...take Delph out of the equation and we'd be worse off than last season.

He won't bench warm.

We'll see. I can't help feeling the main reason they would want him is - yes he's a good player - but he's English and they need homegrown numbers to meet ffp and to replace Milner - who did have a lot of games last season but he plays wider than Delph. If he's competing with the likes of Nasri, Silva, Navas and Toure for more central MF I don't think he'll get as many games. Time will tell

Agree with CJ. He's not good enough for CL or to win them the league so he'll be a filler as was Milner to a large extent. And Milner is the better player, even if I have always considered both to be a trifle over-rated. I actually don't think Delph is such a huge loss if we can get a decent replacement

As somebody pointed out Fernando managed 25 games for Man City last season and Delph is certainly better than him. I think that whilst Delph wouldn't start as many games for them as for us, he'd certainly play often enough at Premier League and Champions League level for the move to be worth it for him. It'll be gutting, but I'm too used to player departures to get my knickers fully in a twist over this.

If you're off the good luck Fabian and thanks for letting get a fee I suppose.

The club should not have gone over the top with the PR when he signed as I guess they knew he would be off in the summer. Mr Delph will be public enemy number one now.

Once a player gets involved in the England national team set up it seems to me they can suddenly become too big for Villa and have their heads turned far too easily by their new peers

You're basing your entire criticism around what you think, with no basis in fact. It's an unlikely scenario that nobody wanted him for nothing in January but they'll willingly pay £10 million in July.

I don't get why he'd be public enemy number one. If he goes, he will have played well for us, left for money when he could have gone for free. It'll be a bit petty to hate, loathe, boo and hiss him.

I don't consider £8m rather than a free in the summer to be at all naive.  Leaving it so late was, but the final deal was very good business.

That's how I see it. I hoped the rumours weren't true but if he goes so be it. Keeping him since January was a major factor in staying up and getting to Wembley so I am thankful for that.

If man city move is going to happen  I suggest Delph should forget about doing preseason cross country running and instead find himself a nice park bench to sit on as that would be more useful to him next season.

It's as I said further up the thread really. It's really the PR of having him say he loved the club, wanted to progress with us, could see himself staying for his career that looks very poor if he goes. It's just very strange from his point of you and the club's.
