look at it this way, without a take over we could have 50m plus to spend  through the sales of Weimann, Sylla, Benteke and Delph. Used wisely - and that's the biggest variable - we could end up with a better side than we have now. Other clubs have gone through similar upheaval and change(Southampton for example) and have emerged more competitive. It might not be all doom and gloom, life goes on long after our current favourites have left, even though at the time, they appear irreplaceable.

I'm sure Liverpool/Spurs fans said similar when Suarez/Bale left. Benteke and Delph are our two best players by a distance, replacing them wouldn't be easy.

But even if Delph leaves and it's for £10m, signing a contract was standing by us. We all know contracts aren't worth anything really these days, if a player is hell bent on going then he's going to go but we we're in line to get zilch for Delph, he signed a contract ensuring that we will get a decent sum of money without completely hindering his own prospects in the mean time, if he had gone on a free there would be a que a mile long ready to throw riches at him this summer, as it is, £10m there would still be a que for him and we would still get money. He did good by us in February, stay or go, not many would have done as he did.

This I didn't know.  But it emphasises the point about them wanting first team football.  Delph would not be guaranteed that a year away from the Euros.
He wouldn't be guaranteed it, but who would be keeping him out of the team at Man City?

Fernando played 29 games last season, Lampard played 38 games, Milner played 45 games. Two of them have left and would anybody pick Fernando in midfield over Delph?

Particularly with rumours about Touré leaving as well, I think he'd fancy himself to play plenty of matches if he did go there.

I can see the point.  However, based on that logic then there would've been a good chance Milner would've been a regular starter and he didn't see fit to stay even with all the money they were offering.  It's arguable he has taken a step down.

Signing the contract worked for both parties. You'd hope he'd stand by his words but then again I wasn't impressed by his quotes about Benteke (can't fault him if he wants to move to better himself) even if he was correct he should not be saying that. Was he sub-consciously talking about himself ??

Yup, a fair point.

You would have thought that if the release clause is set at 10million there would be a que banging the door down to get him

i haven't got a clue if it's true or not, I couldn't believe Delph signed a new contract so this would make sense as to the reason why I suppose

Delph is his own man, and I think he is quite different from a lot of the players in the prem right now, as in I believe he does have a sense of loyalty, and going to man citeh messes up your career, I don't want him to leave but such is the revolving door at citeh I think there could be better options for a player of Delphs talent.

I think that is, for whatever reason, because they don't play him through the middle and never really have. His competition isn't Fernando etc. I agree that at this moment I think Delph starts for Man City but that might be with tinted glasses.

2 things for me. 1: I think the release cause is relegation only (we know nothing but that's what I'd be guessing). 2: That statement really was different to what you would hear from any footballer anywhere when signing a contract. I think the lad is a good egg. I wouldn't begrudge him the move though if he did. He could earn a lot more dough.

The statement was certainly different to the run of the mill. Along the lines of they have shown faith in me during my injuries so now it is time for me to show faith in the club and recording a statement to show on the big screens before kick off. It would all ring hollow for him to bugger off now.

What I find most amusing is that the media is now reporting this one as fact, but two if it actually does exist that this would have been some sort of top level secret that Nursey somehow exposed. Like some Contract busting superhero.

Delph has an agent. Any club who had any interest in him could have got information about his contract way before today. But apparently now that it is being discussed there will be a queue of teams after him. And if Delph actually wanted to leave or was in any doubt at all about his future, like Vlaar he wouldn't have signed a contract and said what he said.

Now, I can absolutely believe there was a relegation clause in there. But a sale clause that low for an England international in his peak years? Not buying it.

At the end of the day, this release clause story may not be true at all. Given the paper that it's been printed in, there's a good chance it's not.

It would be spectacular for him to go back on it. I just can't see him saying it all if a 10m release clause is there foot anything other than relegation.

Say it is true. He stayed, captained the side to safety and a cup final and would be going for £10m rather than on a free transfer, where he would inevitably got himself a much higher salary. I couldn't really knock him for that. Even then he's going to want to be confident of getting regular first team football so he can play in the European Championship.

Of course that's worse case scenario and as others are saying, it could be bullshit designed to sell newspapers in a time when sales usually drop.

Not that I want it to happen but we would be at least getting £10m for someone who 5 months ago looked like they were going for nowt
Someone who signed a large, long new contract, made a particular point of emphasising his reasons for staying and is now worth £20m (c.f. Henderson, Lallana for price comparison).
I admire your spin on this but it assumes that there is a £10m release clause and that he wants to move.
With new owners apparently en route, I'd be amazed if his agent was wanting him to move. Since he is team captain I'm sure a wealthy new owner - on arrival - would be politely asked to make Fab's contract just a little more attractive...

Delph won't be going anywhere this summer. Quite happy to make a £100 charity donation to H&V if I'm wrong
