when we signed Fabian a friend of mine who is a dirty Leeds fan told me he was the next "Gerrard" so after seeing him play a bit for the Villa I was abit underwhelmed by him.

but by god he is starting to show what he can do now ! and if he can weigh in with 8/10 goals then he might find himself as an outside chance for  Rio in the summer....

UTV
Think I've posted something very similar to this on here before, Doc.
You could see his potential even when he wasn't quite on his game and I'm delighted he's starting to demonstrate that potential now.
Knew nothing about KEA before he signed for us but remember being impressed in pre-season last year, then things didn't go well for him. But again, he's settled and started to show his worth. I feel that Joe Bennett will also come good given time - he's still a young lad and we could see progress towards the end of last season.
It's par for the course with the system PL has in place - bring in young, hungry or non PLeague players but be patient with them - they will come good eventually. It will be a bit painful along the way, but we are starting to see the project succeeding.
Neutrals have comented on being surprised that PL kept his tenure during the bad times last season and that we stayed up. The patience and understanding by all concerned with Villa has been a real positive factor for us - fans have been brilliant, PL has stood by his players and decisions, and the players are starting to reward us with the belief that has been put in them.
Long may the Villa/PL approach continue!
UTV!

Funny how many people here have always rated him.

About a year ago the consensus seemed to be that he was hopeless, or worse.

Hmmmm

Just because the majority were writing him off doesn't mean everyone was. My main points when sticking up for him over the last couple of years were a) he needed to be injury free and b) he needed more license to get forward and roam about.

I think our current formation suits our players with only Weimann arguably being asked to play in a position he's not suited to (and that's a marginal call).

As a result delph and KEA are really fulfilling their potential.

Agree with purpletrousers - we need a song for Fab!

Any offers?

I'm sure there was one in his Leeds days that went something like -

Fabian Delph
Fabian Delph
Fabian Delph, Fabian Delph, Fabian Delph
He dribbles like Jaizinho
He shoots like Rivelinho
He's better than ...(cannot remember the name)
De de de de de
Fabian Delph, Fabian Delph, Fabain Delph....

To the tune of adams Family.

That sounds awesome, any excuse to get the Addams Family into Football!

Need to hear it being sung but I honestly thought it sounded terrible when I just hummed it out loud.

Delph certainly has the ability to get a few goals. I think now he's got a solid midfield with him and he's playing week in, week out, he'll probably contribute a few goals from range this season. He was unlucky against Arsenal too. He's the one you'd fancy from our central midfielders to chip in with a few. Having Westwood siting deep, and KEA getting at the opposition I think we'll see Delphy going on a few bursting runs out of the middle this season and get a few shots off.

He's looking a quality prospect now. I thought at the beginning of the season Westwood would be the one to watch. I actually think Delphy will be now. I just hope he stays fit.

It just sounds a bit too slow for a football chant

It's like the Habib Beye song. Sounds great in theory, sounds crap at a football match.

Someone was singing it in the queue for the train after we lost to Phil Dowd at Wembley and it sounded quite funky.

Think the Leeds fans sung it when Robinho was at Man City.

He dribbles like Jaizinho,
He shoots like Rivelinho,
He's better than Robinho,
He's fabulous Fabian Delph.
Fabian Delph.
Fabian Delph.
Fabian Delph, Fabian Delph, Fabian Delph....

There we go

any chant with more than 3 or 4 words in it will find it difficult to catch on
