Can't say I've ever heard a 1D track, or if I did I can't remember.  That #Prayforlouis stuff is pretty funny though.

Same here. Thanks for the heads up on #prayforlouis.

Let's not worry too much about the N word on twitter. These are just normal kids who think its clever to use that just now and hopefully will be ashamed of in a couple of years time.
As for Gabby just seen the incident again and it was not even close to being hard challenge never mind bad.

In bad taste, but #RIPLouis is even funnier.

Aston Villa better get ready for lot of demand for Agbonlahor 11 Villa shirt due to Nigel Kennedy and he sorting out Louis from 1D and I never heard of those boy band 1D before.

I was thinking about that, and the Proms thing, earlier.

What a surreal weekend he's had.

Why do old folk get so worked up about boy bands?

Basically because boy bands are shit and its hard to escape the god awful noise and PR they muster.

I have a 13 year old daughter who loves them and I can quite easily avoid hearing them if I wish so I'm sure you can. From what I've heard of them they seem to be one of the better pop acts of recent times.

I wish Bono was so avoidable.

Oh.

People go on about things they don't like, that's the way it is.

I manage to avoid Bono no problem these days. Don't think I've heard anything his band have released in the last 14 years or so.

Yet still you await his death with your fireworks and party hats....

No. Can't stand the bloke. Don't listen to his music. Don't listen to his interviews. Don't read his interviews. Don't watch him on TV etc. Just making the point it's easy to avoid something you don't like or are you suggesting its not?

Nope.

I was just saying that when you said this:

You could also say the same about you getting wound up about Bono. I'd imagine it's exactly the same thing - don't like boy bands, moan about them. You don't like Bono, you moan about him. People moan about things they don't like.

Avoiding him / them doesn't really come into it.

A thread isn't a thread until Bono gets a mention.

You could do but I would suggest blokes in their 40's and 50's aren't One Direction etc target audience.

Do you understand I'm saying that if you want to avoid something you can? It's not that difficult, I found it hard to avoid Bono when I was married to somebody employed by him but now I manage to avoid him and his band. That was the point you seemed to pick up on, anyway I'm off to bed now, early start to go to The Clash pop up museum tomorrow. Without them there would be no U2 evidently.

Gaby should invite Louis and the band round to Villa Park for next game to watch Villa trash Newcastle :)

Apparently Harry Styles has tweeted #proudoflouis and it's trending.

This is me attempting to look like I know more than I do about 1D and Twitter.

Yes, I genuinely understand it's easy to avoid stuff you don't like. I have no quibble with that at all. None whatsoever. I agree.

You asked why old blokes moan about boy bands.

I'm just pointing out that people, generally, moan about stuff they don't like, regardless of that. Which is why I'll moan about X Factor, despite finding it easy to avoid, which is why you will moan about Bono, despite finding him easy to avoid (for 14 years or whatever), which is why Woodhall will moan about giving money away (despite finding it easy to avoid).

Boy bands are not some special case. People moan about shit they don't like, regardless. We all do it, especially on the internet, and anyone who says or suggests they don't, is a great big fibber.

I don't like work, either. I am going to both moan about, and avoid, it all week this week.

In my experience some people display an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of subjects/people they claim to detest. I'm thinking along the lines of a former colleague who claimed to detest soap operas, but could summarise plot lines far better than me.

With television stuff there's always the risk of the "I hate it, but she / he (ie partner) watches it all the time, and I can't avoid it" situation, where people find their hatred of watching certain stuff combined with a lack of anything else to do.

I used to be like that with Coronation St. She loved it, I hated it, but the chemistry of it wasn't quite enough to make me go and read / piss about on the internet / mow the lawn / whatever.

Whereas other things - talent shows, property shows for me - I just can't be in the same room as them. It's like with young people and those things that shops have to discourage them from hanging around, that play horrible tones only they can hear.

Gabby did the kid a favour. All that humility he accrued when honking his ring up in front of 60,000 people is going to come in handy in 6 months time when he's back behind the counter serving at Halfords.
