I think Savage is a decent pundit to be fair. He made a bold call in predicting us to go down and lets face it, he wasn't far off. I've also read some of his other articles on the Beeb and they are pretty spot-on. I'm more upset with the Beeb trying to groom Michael Owen to become a permanent fixture on MOTD. He makes Claridge and Rosenior on the Football League show seem insightful and interesting!

Nobody should be in the least surprised at yet another tawdry example of twattery in the twattosphere.

I once witnessed Mr. Savage coming under a sustained volley of "bants" from a group of Villa fans near the Mailbox, and he was laughing his head off.

Savage is a wind up merchant who invites abuse and can't complain when he gets it. When it comes to that sort of thing everyone draws their own line as to what is acceptable. But the comments made in this instance have crossed the line so much and are totally unacceptable to any decent person.

Savage was an idiot and wind up merchant on the pitch and he's just the same off it. Not excusing the response, it was pathetic, but his intention from the outset here was to get a reaction.

Spot on Chris.

B-lose players and fans only feel important when their world collides with Villa, so it's easy to see why they strive to make it happen whenever possible.

He is the individual equivalent to Coventry. Through his journeyman career of Crewe, Leicester, Blues, Blackburn, Derby and Brighton he had to find a club to dislike and picked us. He was the panto villain while he was at blues and then we stopped caring when he left. If anything we quite liked him for shitting on them. Since then he likes to poke us every so often to remind us he still exists.

He did also say after the comment about his dad that 'Villa fans are showing their true colours'...thus painting us all with the same brush. I have no sympathy for him whatsoever and him being nutted by Dublin is still one of my all-time favorite Villa memories.

My all-time favourite Villa memories include winning trophies, great games and pieces of sublime skill. They don't include moments when we sunk to their level.

BBC MOTD football analysis.

I know I'm missing shrewd, perceptive, insightful and discerning technical discussions, but I just can't help using the mute button when Robbie appears.

Spot on. It is a nasty thing to say back, but it was exactly what he was fishing for, and immediately ran to the moral high ground claiming foul, as he used to with the ref when someone had enough and kicked him. He is a vile specimen, and unfortunately someone said something he could bleat to all and sundry about.

I see the Chelsea fan wishing Petrov a painful death has not been done yet. Or is this worse because Savage has a big mouth? All clubs have idiot fans that will snap and say horrible things when their little anger light goes off.

MichaelOwen , you cant believe they have him on. After the dross of shearer , lawrenson and co and the excellent Gary Neville on sky I have seen , you would think they would not go down that awful drab route again.

but thats the BBC  for you , a bit like the FA
