A game closer to the end of the season and no closer to the bottom.

That is a step forward.

It raises an interesting question, though. A couple o games ago the consensus seemed to be: 'if we can't get six more points from our remaining games, then we deserve to go down.'

Well, now we've got them. If we went down, would we deserve to stay up?

We'll stay up comfortably.

Great result! The first half was one to forget but we played some really good football in the second. Gabby was on fire and yet again delivered when it mattered.
Thought we'd blown it at the end when Guzan flapped at a cross but the striker missed an open goal. Still, brilliant result. Pity Wigan won, but if we keep this form going I can't see us dragged down.
Onto next week and a bit of revenge. F#ckin hate Chelsea and all they stand for in the game. We WILL beat those cockney tramps.

3 Points better off than at 3.oclock and we still have some on here saying doom doom and more doom, this is the best position we have been in all season, never have we been higher up the table since the season started and that was alphabetically, for fuck sake get down Villa Park next week give the Villa the noise that will make Chelsea think there in Turkey or more importantly wish they were and lets get 6 more points between now and the end of the season.

Amen brother.

This - can't wait to make some noise for these lads next week - I can't speak highly enough about everything Lambert is doing and I am loving it. Just get through this season and good times are ahead I feel.

MOTD order: 1.WBA v Wigan, 2. Norwich v Aston Villa, 3. Fulham v Reading, 4. Spurs v Tottenham, 5. QPR v Arsenal, 6. West Ham v Newcastle, 7. Swansea v Man City

Match 4 must be the most tightly contested game of all time, at least they both have home advantage due to the groundsharing

How do their fans get on nowadays?

It's the most insipid 'rivalry' in football except for blose-albion.

We are not mathematically safe, but for us to go down, Wigan, Sunderland, Newcastle, Norwich and Southampton would all need to finish above us.

I can't see that happening.

Not even with the other teams relatively easier games?

No.

Also, Norwich, Newcastle, and Sunderland are all playing badly.

Like I said, not mathetmatically safe yet, I wish we were, but it's looking extremely unlikely. You'll get 40/1 on us going down on bet365 at the moment. That looks like a decent consolation, if the worst did happen.

What relatively easier games? Newcastle's are similar to ours, a team in the bottom three in QPR and a team going for the champions league in Arsenal, Sunderland have some strugglers to play, including Southmapton and then Spurs away, Norwich have The Baggies and then Man City, Wigan have to play Arsenal too.

The fixtures are pretty evenly matched.

Yeah, I'll have a quid on that. So, if we do go down I'll have a couple of double-Ayrtons in my skyrocket. Propa nice.

If we go into the final round of games with more than one team between us and Wigan then yes, things look better even if we lose on Saturday. But you don't want it to be a shoot-out between us and Wigan.

Norwich have WBA and Man City. I think they could be the team to go down.

It's not just about who has what games remaining anymore. It's more about the mental side of things this late on, and no team in the bottom half is more comfident or more together than us right now. The importance of belief cannot be underestimated and our lot believe in each other and will never give up.

Agreed and if Sunderland don't win on Monday things will be more positive, unless Wigan then go and beat Swansea and Arsenal. We're not safe but of the teams in the bottom half, we're the one in form, I think we're in a good position now, but it has been an odd season in terms of how many teams can still get relegated and end of season fixtures do turn up odd results.
