I hope you are right... I think I thought we would do it if we won today, and be there. To not be has me very worried still Maz.

I thought Delph, apart from Gabby, was our best player by a country mile, but Westwood is very understated in what he does. He reads the game well, and just gets the ball in places where if he did not we would be in big trouble on the pitch. His ball for Gabby was class. That is the difference with him and Delph, both are great, but Westwood has tonnes more composure on and off the ball, so does not need to look like action man and still be effective.

The maths say otherwise but I reckon that's us safe. There are some teams below us now with absolutely no form or momentum, all of whom will be very nervous indeed.

All of whom have a bit of a banker game to come.

We are in just as big trouble as we were at 3.

No such thing as a banker game in this league. People are also assuming we'll get nothing fron Chelsea. I'm not so sure. They play Man Utd and Spurs before meeting us. Two very tough games  before they play a rested Villa, all in 6 days. Tough ask for any team.

I like our odds.

Good point Id forgotten about that, Plus the Europa cup final on Wednesday after our game. As much as its not such a big Trophy they will still be busting a gut to win it and they may hopefully lose a bit of focus against us.

I feel surprisingly a bit subdued tonight , I felt a win today would do it for sure but wigans win has left a nasty taste.
I'm hoping Norwich dont beat WBA and Newcastle don't beat qpr next week - its still incredibly tight down there and if wigan beat Swansea it puts us probably 2 points off the drop zone .

A draw with Chelsea would surely see us home and dry , but I fully expect sunderland and wigan to win in midweek- would take vitrtually everything to go against us and a freak set of results to send us down.

And our last game of the season too. I never ever assume we'll lose to a bunch of shits like Chelsea. The day I do is the day I give up football. This is Aston Villa we are talking about. For all their trophies, they will always be a bunch of nobodies to me

Fair comment? Didn't see the game but I find Hughton (NOT Houghton!) one of the more dignified managers, perhaps he has a point:

Quote
Norwich City manager Chris Hughton:
"I'm annoyed and frustrated because there was no way we should have lost or deserved to lose. We were the better side over 90 minutes but Villa have pace on the counter-attack and we have conceded two poor goals today.
"Joe Bennett shouldn't have been on the park - he was on a yellow card when he conceded the penalty and had two or three fouls after that. I find it incredible that he was still on the park.
"Next week's game against West Brom becomes a bigger game. We will need a better performance but we can't concede the goals we conceded today and expect to win football matches.

They should have been 4 down by the time penalty was awarded, so there is not a chance in hell they were the better team, that is said to appease the fans who chanted you don't know what your doing at him through the second half.

As for Bennett, he should have been sent off, for certain. I also think there was a clear and concise tactic from Hughton to the players to try and get Bennett sent off.

All we can do is win the games in front of us, who would not have taken 6 points from our last 2 games a week ago, plus a scored 8 against 2 goal dif, for fuck sake man up grow a pair, give these lads some credit, and at times this season I have given Gab some shit, I am glad you are wearing claret and blue thats for sure.

Not in a million year are we safe. Doesnt matter how many teams are below us, the points gap is still too small. Chelsea want Champions League and Wigan could need a win to stay up.

Hardest run in out of the lot for me

Amazingly, I agree Tuscans, and am more worried about relegation today than I was yesterday. The gap is the same, but a tough fixture for Wigan they have won.

FFS, are you serious, we've won, teams above us have dropped points, Wigan are still 5 points behind us, with 4 games to play to our 2. How on earth are we more likely to be relegated now then we were yesterday? I swear some people want us to be relegated just so they can say I told you so.

We all know we are not safe, yet, but to say we are more likely to be relegated than we were is a ludicrous statement.

Well said. Forget what Wigan are doing. Six points and turning round the goal difference in five days. Anyone knocking that in any way is mad.

Maybe Bennett should've gone, Holt's thuggishness went predictably unpunished today, and that was a disgrace. There's no point in having rules in the game if one player is allowed to flout them so brazenly with his sharp studs and sharper elbows, for the sole apparent reason of being popular with the web-handed onlookers.

I appreciate the irony in ending your post with 'ridiculous statement' when not a sentence earlier you say that people want us to go down.

No one has knocked it, we are all ecstatic with how much heart and battle Villa have shown!
