Pat Murphy says Lerner won't be sacking Lambert even if we are relegated
Unless Lerner told him this directly then I don't see how he would know this.

I know the board get a lot of stick and a lot of it rightly so (particularly with regards to their silence), however, they will not let Villa get relegated. It is NOT an option. They have made bad decisions in the past but they are not stupid enough to let the worst happen.

Something big WILL happen before the window closes be it a change of manager or an influx of money.

Keep the faith guys.

So why don't they come out and say that?  And put something in place to keep us up?

Time is ticking away if we want to get players in.  Surely we would want them in position before Newcastle next Tuesday?

Why are stupid threads like this left alone, whilst others (with more sense) are locked or deleted?

Agreed we'd want them here by no later than Saturday before a training session Sunday

Big Fat Ron...purely because his name goes best with claret and blue army.

If that is the criteria then Big Fat Sam could be in the running.  Never thought I would say this, but I do think Sam Allardyce could do a better job than the current manager of the Aston Villa.  Yes, the football would be awful, but having watched West Ham a few times on TV then it is no worse than what we have served up this season.  He would get us organised (the same goes for Mark Hughes in my opinion) and coming from the West Midlands, he would at least have an idea about the size and expectations of the club.  He would probably give the club a bit of stability for a couple of years and we could then build on that.

I accept that is not going to be a popular opinion and even as I'm writing this, I can't help but think "is this what it has come to?".

Paul Lambert's football is shite, AND it leads to us getting humiliated on a weekly basis.

It seems the mantra is 'anybody but Lambert'.

Sorry, haven't read a compelling arguement for any of the listed possibilities or any of the additional suggestions.

Being realistic, if there is no money to spend, who would want the job.  A has been with one final throw of the dice?  Would a manager with their career in front of them risk that coming here.

If Lambert is sacked, we should give a six-month deal to someone with PL experience who could sort out or defence quickly. From those criterias, we could probably do worse than Sven Goran Eriksson or Steve MacClaren. But I doubt that the fans would greet any of those appointments with any sort of joy.

The reasoning is that what we need to stay up -- a bit of tactical nous and a good deal of pragmatism -- is what Lambert lacks.

How did Lambert turn around Norwich, get them promoted twice and into the Premier League mid-table without tactical nous?  Last night - and much of this season - has been pretty awful BUT what Lambert is being asked to do is akin to trying to slow down and turn around a super tanker that is heading towards the Niagara Falls.  Tactical nous goes some way to solving the problem, for sure, but so do resources.  We needed quality players in as of the 1st of January, we have squandered so many points and a Cup Final this month through not getting the required bodies in - the buck stops with Faulkner, his administration and financial planning, in my view.  Good managers don't become bad managers as soon as the ink has dried on their Aston Villa contracts.

I will tell you why. Because he doesnt believe in wingers the fool. He has said they are old fashioned , the fool.

So his plan appears to be hoof it towards Bentekes head and hope, the fool.

Bent will score goals if we had a winger who could cross fast and hard across the area

Which means we could yet stop up.

Spot on.  We don't need a genius manager, just someone who understand this and will consistently apply it week in week out. Yes the squad is still too weak but we would guarantee to pick up more points than under the stubborn and unintelligible Lambert.

I see Grayson's got the shove. Seem to remember he was put forward by some on here not so long ago  Maybe Lerner could give a different unemployed manager 1 game each till the end of the season and the one who does best gets the gig next season. Sounds mental i know, but seeing as Lerner's shit at choosing managers, and we seem to be as well, could be our only chance :0)

Grayson?
I'd take Cholmondeley-Warner at this point.
