Have to be honest i'm not to bothered about this poxy cup what i am bothered about is the humiliation after humiliation Villa supporters have to put up with. This is not just Paul Lambert this is about the total mismanagement of the Aston Villa Football club over the last five years. Yes we had a brief flirtation with something approaching a decent side but even then the warning signs were there. We need a total overhaul of management and possibly a new owner.

This 100%.  Even if we get to the final it will never paper over the cracks of what is probably the worst Villa team I have seen in 35 years.

I'm getting really pissed off with the seemingly incessant stream of humiliation and embarrassment. I'm still trying to believe that Lambert is the right man and if we survive this season things will turn round next season.  But tonight has really got me worried about the direction the club is going in . I know it's only 'half time' in the tie but our inability to defend against lowest league corners is frightening.

We created bucket loads of chances. It was the defending, the leadership and the organisation that was the problem

The team is worse than McNeill's without question.

I can't believe i'm saying this, because my God that side was dreadful, but it's very close.  If Benteke got injured it certainly would be.

We need a bit of luck and our injured players to come back but we can do it.

That's the spirit. A bit of luck, a Premier league team against a division two team over two legs. Luck.

Dearie, dearie, me.

A defence that is weak, spineliness, inept.

A midfield that doesn't create, doesn't tackle, doesn't compete.

An attack that is the opoosite of clinical.

Forget the league cup, even if we should manage to get through, this team has got the fight of their lives to stay in the Premier League. Do we have the players?

Bennett -no, Clark - no, Lowton - no, Bannan - no, Baker - no, Delph - no.

The rest? Benteke - not clinical, Gabby - one goal in 34.

Forget Tranmere in '94. We are weak, uncommitted and terribly, terribly poor.

Well done Bradford, 1 win in 6 before tonight but better than our comedians.

An absolute embarrassment and an unacceptable result. By far the worse result of my life time (and quite possibly our history). The manager HAS to be sacked and if Lerner is not prepared to invest in some experience this transfer window then he needs to sell up as well. Ashamed to call myself a Villa fan tonight and was too embarrassed to even celebrate Weimann's goal.

I assume this is what the post match thread would have looked like in 1994. I pray the ultimate outcome is the same

Look at the team from 1994 though:

Bosnich
Cox
Barrett
Teale
McGrath
Townsend
Richardson
Houghton
Saunders
Daley
Atkinson

Top, top quality in every area of the pitch.  Our central midfield and entire defence these days are nowt but a bad joke in comparison.  Still, an early goal in the home leg and who knows.....

I'd rather start with the '94 team as they are now that that shower of shite.

Worst defence, midfield and captain ever.

I'm struggling to recall a Villa player who looks quite so uninterested and uncommitted as N'Zogbia.

Is it just me or is there a lot of overreaction. Bradford must be doing well to get this far and they have have just knocked Arsenal out. Bradford's keeper wins man of the match and the majority are saying how crap we were.

We weren't entirely crap, we created lots of chances, and didn't take them.

The problem is the defending. I look at their second and third goals, and I'm not thinking "oh no, we're not going to Wembley", I'm thinking "much more of that, and we're going down, without a doubt".

you have to also wonder what impact from a organisation/communication standpoint Guzan would have had over Given. The defence looked at 15's and 16's let alone 6's and 7's.

Clark was atrocious.

try and convince me that Baker was any better. What the hell he was doing for their second is beyond me.

Well he was trying to go out and get the ball, because no other fella was going. It was terrible... Bradford created their own goal chance by chasing everything. No one from villa went out to get that ball and then just crossed it in for the goal. Very bad defending and very poor from the whole of our team.

Let's get some perspective here. Yes, it was an awful performance. But we happened to beat the premier league champions en route to the semi-final in the first place.

You mean their reserves!

Some of their reserves, unless Lescott, Kolo Toure, Kolarov, Barry, Dzeko, Tevez and Balotelli didn't have much to do for the League win last season.

I can see a Tranmere in the second leg coming, but Bennett and Delph should be nowhere near the starting XI.
