I assume this is what the post match thread would have looked like in 1994. I pray the ultimate outcome is the same

Look at the team from 1994 though:

Bosnich
Cox
Barrett
Teale
McGrath
Townsend
Richardson
Houghton
Saunders
Daley
Atkinson

Top, top quality in every area of the pitch.  Our central midfield and entire defence these days are nowt but a bad joke in comparison.  Still, an early goal in the home leg and who knows.....

Spot on.
What we have now is the result of Lerner's cutbacks. Sell your best players and replace them with lower league shit, err I mean, "young and hungry" footballers.
The most confusing part of all this is the amount of fans who have fallen for this bullshit.

As a side note the players didn't even applaud the 4,600 Villa fans there tonight at the end of the game. Wankers.

I'd usually agree with you but they were getting booed rather loudly as they left the pitch.

Yes and they went to a lower league side and were losing 3-0 until deep into stoppage time. Your point is?

My point being that I never once doubted that we'd turn it round in the home leg.  And Tranmere were doing well in the Championship (or whatever it was called back then) and in Aldridge still had one of the deadliest strikers around.

How many more humiliations will we suffer this season?
Who, with any fucking football nous whatsoever, thinks that a midfield comprising of Bannan and Delph will ever be good enough for any game, at any level.
They are simply not good enough, but that goes for many others in our squad.

The trouble is who else could we have put in there which would have led to any difference, KEA and Ireland showed against Wigan and other matches that the result probably would not have been any different.

Bradford were always going to be up for it as they had nothing to lose. And as been shown in recent weeks, score against us and we panic. On clear cut chances we probably should be leading but the difference in our current defence and one who has played together regularly and has confidence in each other was there to see.

Oh, I full agree, who could have played?
Problem is, as has been said, the squad is not good enough and if you buy crap, you get crap.

Have to be honest i'm not to bothered about this poxy cup what i am bothered about is the humiliation after humiliation Villa supporters have to put up with.

Well I'm certainly bothered about this cup and I'm even more bothered about the humiliation we are receiving. Our fans were magnificent again tonight and in spite of all their singing, we still managed to embarrass ourselves once more.

It's not p. c to say it.

Give me Warnock, Cuellar, Collins and Hutton over that lot we're persisting with.

Hunger and potential is one thing Mr Lambert, but don't underestimate experience. Even fourth fucking division experience, as we've seen tonight.

Embarrassing. Truly embarrassing. And the sad part is, a lot of it comes from one mans stubbornness.

This Sat is so important, lose and were are in serious trouble. Win and gives them a lift, but I can't us beating Soton with our midfield / defence.

Is it just me or is there a lot of overreaction. Bradford must be doing well to get this far and they have have just knocked Arsenal out. Bradford's keeper wins man of the match and the majority are saying how crap we were.

We weren't entirely crap, we created lots of chances, and didn't take them.

The problem is the defending. I look at their second and third goals, and I'm not thinking "oh no, we're not going to Wembley", I'm thinking "much more of that, and we're going down, without a doubt".
Randy needs to spend on a few defenders and bolster the midfield.

Let's get some perspective here. Yes, it was an awful performance. But we happened to beat the premier league champions en route to the semi-final in the first place.

You mean their reserves!

Clark was atrocious.

try and convince me that Baker was any better. What the hell he was doing for their second is beyond me.

He was, but because he dives to make last ditch tackles some think he's a world beater. His positioning is questionable.

The way we defend crosses is awful,i thought they were gonna get a fourth.Benteke completely loset his man again. Think Lambert got it wrong from the start, over run in midfield, full backs exposed all the time, when our play broke down, they had numbers running at Bannan,Delph and the defense.

Think Delph is clearly not good enough,Bennett needs to be taken out of the firing line for a bit,but i think he'll learn.

Goals change games, and if we'd taken one of our early chances we'd be in the final by now.

That was a bad day at the office for a good team. Tonight is becoming our standard performance. I thought we'd draw tonight and win he tie, but I can't see our defence seeing us through the second leg

Tranmere had just missed out against promotion to the Prem for two years running prior to 94 and had players like Aldridge. They were also two divisions above tonights opponents.

This is more on par with Doncaster.
