I really worry about the affect this will have on our league form. Having been battered we got a decent result at Swansea and then Ipswich. This should have pushed us on again and it is possible it's going to sink our morale again to new levels.

OK, aside of the ranting I really want to do, looking at individual players:

CNZ - absolute wanker.  Thinks he's Messi when I reckon I've played against better players on a Sunday morning.  PASS THE FUCKING BALL YOU GREEDY TWAT!  The quicker he's got rid of the better.
Delph - he'd struggle to get in Bradford's team.  Get rid, ASAP.
Bannan - you're not Beckham Barry.  When you've learnt to pass 5 yards then you can have a go at passing 50 yards.
Bennett - is everyone else still happy Warnock's been ostracised.  I know Warnock can be a liability, but I doubt he'd have struggled so badly tonight.

Rest of them - no bad individually but need a leader to organise them.

Lambert - oh dear.  You're wrong Lambert - learn from it and change things.

Apparently the team where my kids have been born beat Bradford this season. It's a bloody good job they are too young to know anything about football at the moment because they might be going out to buy Exeter City shirts and rebel against their father.

Badly missing Vlaar in the centre, Clark really is a poor defender.

When Bennett has a bad one he has an absolute mare, too incosistent to be a regular 1st teamer, and Lowton needs a rest, very poor tonight, i'd rather play Hutton.

PL has taken a big gamble with the midfield, and it has'nt worked, we need to replace all the central midfielders, bar Westwood, too weak, too slow, too pedestrian, no confidence, which sums up the team tbh.

The difference between now and 1994 is that we had a half decent team then.

Just when you think it can't get any more humiliating than 8-0 to Chelsea and 0-3 to Wigan...

Utterly unacceptable defending for a premier league side and we have little midfield to speak of.

I've backed Lambert but he's on very, very thin ice now.  After the third he looked like a schoolboy who'd just been relieved of his dinner money by a girl.

The only positive is that it could save us from even more humiliation in the final.

I assume this is what the post match thread would have looked like in 1994. I pray the ultimate outcome is the same

Look at the team from 1994 though:

Bosnich
Cox
Barrett
Teale
McGrath
Townsend
Richardson
Houghton
Saunders
Daley
Atkinson

Top, top quality in every area of the pitch.  Our central midfield and entire defence these days are nowt but a bad joke in comparison.  Still, an early goal in the home leg and who knows.....

I'm surprised so many people are shocked by the result.  We're on our way to the Championship and they're on their way to league 1 - so only one division really between us.

Add to that: we are Aston Villa.  That means we always, always bottle it at raucous lower division grounds.

I still reckon its 50/50. We surely can't miss so many chances again and surely we'll create them. But our defence was so unbelievably bad that I have no confidence we can keep them out at the other end.

It's also a serious worry ahead of Southampton. We need to improve defensively, physically and organisationally or we are likely to go down I think

This is worse than tranmere as a result although I don't remember us missing / creating so many chances in that game

We've become the laughing stock of the football league. It's an absolute disgrace. I don't know where to start to be honest, we aren't good enough at board level, managerial level or playing level. The whole lot can just f*ck off tomorrow as far as I'm concerned.

As a side note the players didn't even applaud the 4,600 Villa fans there tonight at the end of the game. Wankers.

We've got bigger things to worry about than this.

We're fucked. Lambert has obviously spent very poorly in the Summer. We need more of Lerner's money in January otherwise we're going down.

Exactly.  I couldn't give two hoots about getting to Wembley for a game which we're probably going to lose anyway (though showing a bit of pride against a fourth division team would be nice).

We've got three weeks to sort this mess out, or we're in trouble.

That's exactly it.

Really, I can live with not reaching the final - although being dumped out by a bottom tier side over two legs is a whole new level of embarrassing - but what scares the shit out of me is looking at that crud tonight, and thinking how we're going to do on Saturday against Southampton.

Have to be honest i'm not to bothered about this poxy cup what i am bothered about is the humiliation after humiliation Villa supporters have to put up with. This is not just Paul Lambert this is about the total mismanagement of the Aston Villa Football club over the last five years. Yes we had a brief flirtation with something approaching a decent side but even then the warning signs were there. We need a total overhaul of management and possibly a new owner.
