Problem with Bent is that you just hear rumours of his lack of popularity in the dressing room, same at Sunderland and now Villa.

I've just read on the sky sports app that we've been heavily linked with Kenwyne Jones, just what we need another fucking striker!

Getting rid of our most prolific striker because our pathetic manager hasn't a clue how to get the best out of him, something that even Steve Bruce managed This is utterly depressing

Agree with this , natural goalscorer all his career and lambert hasnt a clue how to get the best from him when we have a terrible scoring record.
Agree with you two.

This is PWS reporting from BH. Breaking news, we may sign someone before the transfer window closes. We might even sign more than one player. Although there is also the chance we won't sign anyone. We might also sell someone, but then again we may not.

Now we go back to SSN for more shots of 'Arry Redknapp poking his head through a car window more often than a Balsall Heath hooker.

P.s. Can I have my Pulitzer now please?

Do they still have hookers in Balsall Heath? I think you're about 20 years out of date.

No idea, since I let my subscription to Prossie Monthly lapse i've not kept up to date with such things.

I'm not having that. He was worse than awful last night, he got the chance that some of you had been clamouring for and was crap for 45 minutes and rightly taken off. I'll accept that because of Benteke we don't play to his strengths, but if he'd not adaptable enough to cope then we're better off without him.
Chris, the whole team were crap for the first 45 minutes Newcastle having 80% possession for a lot of the half This was down to Lamberts shocking tactics yet again. We couldn't get near them

I'm at a loss. Only Villa could pay 24m for a proven goalscorer, then sell the supply line and watch him flounder. Probably get less than half that for him and what we do will probably waste on utter shit

I really felt for Bent and Benteke in the first half last night. What striker could thrive in that utterly ridiculous formation ? talk about isolated. I'm half thinking Lambert did it on purpose

Oh well, we'll sell Bent, and Benteke will be off in the summer too. That'll leave young Andreas with the weight of the world on his shoulders as 'living local legend' Gabby chips in with his usual 2/3 goals a year to help him.

Can't we interest Stoke in taking Lambert as a bog cleaner or something instead ?

But Lambert didn't sell the supply line, did he ? Randy/Faulkner did that all on their own during the hiatus between Houllier and McLeish. McLeish then bought N'Zogbia, who superficially loads the gun in similar ways to Young/Downing, but also insists on trying to fire it himself.

Lambert recognised that we didn't have a supply line, and bought a striker that could do without it.

Having said that, the starting XI last night was inexplicable.

The old adage is, you don't become a bad team overnight. This is still true for us - it has taken 2.5 years work by at least five culprits. Blaming it all on any one of them misses the point.

I wouldn't say it was totally down to tactics. I think playing against a team with better players than ours in the majority of positions might have had something to do with it. They panicked after our good start in the second half and we played above ourselves as a result. How many players do you think they would take out of our side?

That's one way of looking at it, the other is that the team was better without Bent on the pitch. Gabby's did more in the first 5 minutes he was on than Bent had in 45. He just doesn't suit the way we play now and if we're going to have any hope of staying up we need to forget about trying to accommodate him.

Bent to Stoke makes sense to me. They have money, they need a striker, we need money, hopefully we can make it work at the last minute. Bent against Newcastle should have been the latest in a long line of proofs that he is just not right for us.
I reckon he'd have got a couple in the second half yesterday. Lambert system is utter shit not Bent

Lambert's first half system was bollocks, but the change of system was only as important as bringing on Weimann, who works harder and can just do more on the pitch. Bent was disinterested and poor yesterday, and give me Weimann any day over that.

Interesting read if you have five minutes

http://fourfourtwo.com/blogs/fourfourtwoview/archive/2013/01/16/the-truth-behind-the-transfer-rumour-mill.aspx

It's a nefarious world...

Good read!  Sums it up really, we have no-one at the club with the nous or balls to join in this type of pantomine brinkmanship to use it to our advantage.

Make that three.

Statistically, Benteke is our most prolific striker.

Benteke 12 goals from 26 apps = 0.46 per game
Bent 24 from 59 = 0.41
Weimann 15 from 39 = 0.38
Gabby 66 from 271 = 0.24

He doesn't want to be here, he isn't number one striker anymore. He has a decent sell on value.

Sell him and invest.
