There are players you could get on that money which would improve us significantly.
Quite true but when you are down the bottom it becomes a sellers market.

You may well be right, the impression I was given was that Lambert doesn't believe there is anybody out there of sufficient quality to improve the squad.

Yes, I know it's insanity.

He did say the other day that he'd bid for players but they'd gone elsewhere. It's frustrating but I'm sure none of us want to see signings just for the sake of it, it's players to strengthen in specific areas that are required.

I've thought for a while Danny Murphy is someone who could help us out.  Even in his footballing dotage he's probably no less mobile than a few of our midfielders, who look like they're running through treacle half the time.  Good shouts for Scharner and Carragher.  Both good competitors, experienced, and we might win some headers in either box.

Our squad is so desperately poor that there must be hundreds of players that'd improve it.

Say we go for a DM.Any agent would be rubbing his hands at our position telling his player
'Right let's screw the fuckers,if the want to one of my players into a relegation scrap, it's gonna cost'.
The agent would only be looking after his player.

I agree Chris, but there should be a list of players that we have scouted to improve the side, which would have a number of targets, there has been plenty of time to scout these players.

Im guessing Thursday is the day quite a few clubs are hoping to conclude signings.

Obviously we could get people in for a pittance. Depends however if Lambert wants to take this course of action.

We might get one if we are lucky.

Since the Bent deal is it true we have only bought in 1 loan player in January?

Exactly.

A player costing us £10m would not accept £30k a week.  Ones that cost £5m might, so let's say 2 at£5m each and a total of £60k wages, which we get from Warnock and Hutton leaving.  Now, do we buy with just an eye to the next 15 games or look for someone that will help post that and fit into the rebuilding project?  So no Harewood's or NRC's that would habg around and add strain to the wagebill, but rather another Benteke or Westwood.  Can we persuade them to come?

I'm afraid it's a little harder than just quoting numbers and saying that should get someone!

It's true that since the Bent deal and now, there has only been 1 January!

Who have we loaned since then?

We've not had any new signings or loans since Bent, though that's only this Jan and last Jan. Stevens joined us last Jan, but he was signed in August.

Edit: Ok, I forgot Keane.

Robbie Keane and Kyle Walker? I think.

We buy players for now to improve the team and try to avoid relegation- not players with future potential .
