The only official number that will matter is that on Jan 31st. Until then every word that the manager speaks, or the press reports about what we can or cannot spend should not be taken at face value. The press simply don't know. Lambert isn't going to give it away. If we haven't strengthened then it will speak volumes for where the club is and apparently where it will be heading.

Every time I think about the possibility of not making the signings we need, my stomach genuinely starts to churn, and I feel sick.

That's what football does to you.

Yeah it's painful that we appear to have the most clueless and shortsighted board in the league. If they can't see investment in January to save us will result in us getting more money come next season, then I despair and they have to be complete morons.

Whoever we do or don't sign I hope yesterday's defeat is not the difference between us and saints at the end of the season.

We would have opened a 6 point gap had we won and its a shame we have not brought players in early January as we are dropping points waiting.

This is a brilliant article that sums everything up. Please take the time to read it.

My suggestion is to try and identify three or four experienced players approaching the end of their Premiership careers - get them on loan  until the end of the season - pay them a decent  whack but promise a huge bonus if we stay up - if they aren`t cup tied they will get a chance to have one last chance at silverware and a Wembley appearance. Who they are is the tough bit !

Given Randy's apparent reluctance to buy experienced players on longer contracts, this is precisely what we should be looking to do. Lescott for instance may cost a couple of million in wages until the end of the season but he's exactly what we need in the middle of our defence. The fact that he's a Villa fan should guarantee he'll play with honour and commitment.

Problem with that is we had 3 and now 2 extremely important league games before that date. We've wasted one, and the players need to be in now and not at the end of the month.

Lambert must be looking to strengthen. I suspect it'll be from the continent; whcih means they'll have a 'running in' period. Not ideal at all.

If we do manage to stay up this season what the hell are we going to do next summer? will there be money available or are we in for a repeat of this season?

I would say at this stage that is the least of our worries.

Not ideal, I agree, but give his financial restraints may be he'll get lucky. The one thing he must not do is to dip into the lower English leagues again, that would just compound the problem.

You must be in dreamland, Dick.

By the way, did I ever thank you for flattening Beelzebub that time?

Also not ideal when your Head of European Scouting quits to be the assistant coach of some small tean in Germany.
