Maybe show some ambition in regards to fee and wages and try and get Lampard. There'll be no shortage of takers in the summer I'm sure. 2-3 mill now. Give him decent wage plus bonuses. He surely will have to take a drop on wages, barring going to Russia, US or Middle East to play.

Parker.
Keane
NRC (till May).
Whittingham

As for defence, perhaps we can get amongst the bidding for Dawson, Olssen.
Or we look to spain, france, germany for available players or see what scandanavian players are available.
Mellberg? Worth a punt maybe. Miles better than what we have. Experienced and still looks sharp.

We are all repeating the same mantra that we need to look at bringing in experience in this window but there seems to be plenty of moaning both on here and on the radio phone-ins without coming up with suggestions.  Given that consensus seems to be saying that we need a LB CB and Centre Mid general as a minimum my challenge is for any future posters on this thread to provide three names.  If you choose to accept this challenge they need to be realistic targets regarding transfer fee, wage demands and effectiveness.  If we were all tasked with examining the current squads of the 20 premier league clubs for example how many of us could supply three players for PL to consider?  And before anybody asks I know football exists outside the PL but it is a good starting point is it not?
Lionel Messi.
Paul McGrath (at 28 yrs oldish please).
Robert Carlos (As above).
Lothar Mattheus and Franz Beckenbauer.

No disrespect Supertom but you have just reinforced the exact point I am making.  Thank you for you contribution in response I could say
Michel Platini
Bobby Moore
Paolo Maldini

but it doesn't provide any solution does it.  Good for entertainment purposes but not at all constructive really sorry!

Lampard will not come here.
Keane has said he's taking time out having turned down qpr .
Parker and whittingham I'd like but can't see it happening .
Dawson and Olssen both way out of our finances.

As you suggest, I think that there are players out there who we could get on, even if on loan, if we really wanted them.  It's just a matter of money.

Its very hard to come up with three possible targers when we seem to have no money at all. Thats why all the suggestions have dried up on here. Even the press are not bothering to make up stories anymore.

An experienced midfielder on minimal wages and transfer fee? F**k knows........ Can only see loan deals possible.

If we can't get Whittingham out of Cardiff to come here we may as well pack up

Owen Hargreaves on a pay as you play deal.  Experienced and very likely totally cost free. *Wibble*

Probably get 5 minutes out of him if lucky.

Thought of that. Play 5 in midfield. 3 to actually play, plus Hutton carrying Hargreaves around on his shoulders telling them what to do.. Jobs a good 'un :0)

My suggestion is to try and identify three or four experienced players approaching the end of their Premiership careers - get them on loan  until the end of the season - pay them a decent  whack but promise a huge bonus if we stay up - if they aren`t cup tied they will get a chance to have one last chance at silverware and a Wembley appearance. Who they are is the tough bit !

Hargreaves is a good shout if fit. Diame would be a good signing, as would Parker.

Dunne or Vlaar coming back into the team would be as good as many of the possible new signings we could get this window, but if we could get someone top quality like Lescott, Hangeland, or Samba in then it would make a huge difference.

Main issue is that anyone that would make an immediate difference is likely to want higher wages than unproven lower division youngsters, and our chairman seems steadfastly opposed to paying higher wages than that level.

It was notable that, while Bannan did well coming off the bench yesterday (looks so much more comfortable further forward, and Delph and Westwood were actually ok in the centre), Zog, Holman and Gabby were really not very good, provided minimal threat or defensive cover. I'm not convinced Ireland would have done much better either, and Benteke continued his dodgy form while Weimann went unprovided in the box. This Coutinho fella would presumably help a fair bit with this problem, which is utterly chronic. Wingy/style attacking midfielder and a left back are the greatest priorities for me, and then whether or not we can trust the fitness of Vlaar decides whether or not a centre-back or -midfielder would then be more important.

So are we actually looking for two or three players where a fee will not be involved. It seems that way.

1. Warnock can do left back or midfield
2. Hutton can do opposition players
3.NRC

and better suggestions?

Maybe you are right but lambert has said he will not be taking that option - stubborn I guess.

Keep coming back to Hangeland - out of contract this summer.
