NRC in. Warnock back involved. Instantly a stronger team.

So are we actually looking for two or three players where a fee will not be involved. It seems that way.

1. Warnock can do left back or midfield
2. Hutton can do opposition players
3.NRC

and better suggestions?

Probably would let Hutton loose in midfield. What's the worse that can happen? Whatever his many deficiences he came over as one of the more committed senior players last season. Stick him in as a Dogs of war type - win the ball or clobber the player, play it to someone good*.  NRC doesn't offer that much more than Hutton imo so i don't think you can justify his wages, even though i thought he got rather a raw deal from the club. Warnock - who knows. Is he still a basket case?

*good as in better than Hutton, not actually "good"

Hutton in midfield. we're getting more and more desperate. he can't beat ppl he can't cross he can't defend. what is the point?

id put Warnock back in at left back though. question is would he be arsed ?

I've not seen anything that says for a fact that we have or have not got money to spend. All we can go by is that when we needed to spend money 2 years ago we did so on Bent. The problem might be that players do to want to come here or are leaving their options open until nearer the end of the window. Our requirements are clear though

Left back
Centre half
Central midfield
Wide attacker

We are not looking for world beaters, just players capable of providing leadership or Premiership quality. Players like Craig Gardner, Gallas, Olson, Heitinga, Sinclair, Simpson

Now is not the time for experimenting.

We also need to ship out shite like Ireland, Hutton etc.....

Lets get NRC back to save us, like he did for Bolton last season.

How come you know that we won't spend that much or is it just your opinion?

There may be limited funds but when questioned lambert said £6m  was more than he could afford to spend on a player.

We are all repeating the same mantra that we need to look at bringing in experience in this window but there seems to be plenty of moaning both on here and on the radio phone-ins without coming up with suggestions.  Given that consensus seems to be saying that we need a LB CB and Centre Mid general as a minimum my challenge is for any future posters on this thread to provide three names.

All very well, but the highly paid staff at Villa should have the better knowledge of players than us. It's for them to deliver.

I've not seen any quotes from Lambert on how much he can / cannot spend.

None of those players would cost £6m.

way i read it we haven't got 6m to spend, let alone 6m on one player but you're right it is my opinion/interpretation of Lambert's remarks. I hope you're right and i'm wrong if that's any consolation

Here is the interview and quotes that you missed  john 2710 to which me and greg were referring-

PAUL Lambert admits the Villa Park faithful are in dreamland if they expect expensive, proven Premier League signings like Scott Parker and Joleon Lescott this month.

As Villa prepare for today’s crunch survival clash at home to relegation rivals Southampton, Lambert insists he is striving to bolster his struggling young squad.

He is particularly looking to strengthen central midfield and central defence to preserve Villa’s Premier League status and keep their Wembley cup dreams alive.

But he revealed there will not be enough money to bring in a £6 million player and admits the notion of recruiting names like Parker and Lescott is fanciful.

It means there will be no marquee Darren Bent-style signings riding to the rescue like two years ago.

Amidst questions about his transfer plans for the current window, Lambert was asked: “When fans say things like ‘we need Joleon Lescott, we need Scott Parker’, are they in dreamland?”

To which the Villa boss replied: “Yes, money, I think that’s the reality of it. We can’t do it.”

Lambert was also pressed on how much transfer cash he would be given and ruled out the prospect of spending more than £6 million on a player.

“Yes, it’s probably fair to say we’ve not got that, so you have to box clever,” he said. “A lot of things get dominated by finance.”

Chairman Randy Lerner backed Lambert with more than £20 million for a summer recruitment drive when he brought in seven of his own players – Karim El Ahmadi, Matthew Lowton, Ron Vlaar, Joe Bennett, Jordan Bowery, Ashley Westwood and Christian Benteke – while Brett Holman also arrived, having been recruited by the previous managerial regime.

Villa’s stuttering Premier League season so far has put them in a precarious position in the top flight table, but despite the risk of relegation, the claret and blues retain faith in their vision of investing in youth, which they are adamant is in the long-term interests of the club beyond this campaign.

With the Capital One Cup door to Wembley still slightly ajar and experienced players returning from injury, they are refusing to panic-spend their way out of trouble. However, it seems a risky strategy as the club would stand to lose much, much more if this season’s league results pattern continues between now and May and they are demoted to the Championship.

There is not a good time to miss out on the Premier League pots of gold, but this summer would be worse than ever with new TV deals generating a bumper windfall which guarantees every club at least £60 million revenue in 2013-14.

One way of Lambert generating transfer funds would be to cash in on unwanted players including Alan Hutton and Stephen Warnock, while it is also understood Villa would listen to offers for other senior stars.

But the claret and blues have not received enquiries about any players, with Lambert saying: “You can’t do anything if the phone doesn’t go.

“It’s not something where you pick up the phone to someone and say he’s for sale or he’s for sale. You don’t do that. If a phone call comes in then you deal with it.”

Lambert admitted central defence and central midfield was where he was looking to strengthen.
