We don't do deals in public. We got out of our way to avoid any leaks and it's only people at airports or fans with camera phones that are opportunist that leak stories. Even this years kit was a complete secret. Just because nobody is saying anything doesn't mean at all, especially with this club that nothing is happening.
We don't do deals behind closed doors evidently.

I've watched the lambert press conference and he did not say he had money to spend , I think the players he's targeted may be loan deals and then perhaps depending on whether we can finance the wages ?

Anyway time for a few drinks , enjoy your evening all and lets hope for a win tomorrow !

He said: "Do I have the patience of the chairman? You would certainly like to think so. I can't influence anything like that.

"I can only work with what I have, and that is the same for any manager. You try to do your job the best you can.

Other Lambert quotes:

"There's one or two lads that we'll try and get in but a lot does get dictated by finances. I understand the finances of it and this club cannot go bust or into major debt, it's got to watch itself and it's something I'll meet head on"

Also when asked about signing player for the sake of it that may not be in the long term plans he said "It'll just keep putting this club backwards if you keep doing that".

Seems like there's very little to spend but he obviously accepts it and sounds like he's here for the long haul, any other manager would have done one by now if that wasn't the case surely? I doubt we'll see many more high profile big money earners coming in anytime soon, my guess would be Lerner's given him assurances about his job for the future and is happy to let him build his team over a long period.

Well like i said its his funeral. TSM had the backing of Lerner this time last year as well. A load of demoralised kids against teams who are used to getting a hammering and bouncing back in the lower reaches of the PL?.  Either a brave man or a fuckwitt.

Perhaps PL was counting on Dunne to be his back up for a strong man/voice of experience in defence. He let Collins go, which suggests to me that Dunne was in his plans for this season. He really has had rotten luck in long term injuries.  Dunne has been a perennial starter until this season.

We're not some fantastically secretive club, we do deals exactly the same as everyone else does, we don't say anything unless we need to. We are no different from anyone else in that way.

You make it sound like we have some code of silence that other clubs do not have.

Ultimately, we'll find out how much money we've got to spend in the next two weeks.

Exactly. We weren't amazingly secretive in the Summer window Vlaar was photographed being given a tour of Villa Park!!

No I'm not. I'm just saying we're hardly going to spouting off to all and sundry how much we've got and who are targets are. We don't talk about sit o why get upset if the manager says nothing. McLeish said nothing, Houllier didn't say much and neither did MON. And with MON the only thing we knew was nothing was happening until the very end.

I'm not claiming at the its the bloody KGB, I'm simply saying on the back of there's no injury or transfer updates, that we're not going to be talking about them. And yes, if you were to rank us with everyone else, I would say we say less than others and much less than some. Surely if everyone was the same nobody would be complaining that the club says nothing?

Personally I don't give a monkeys whether we do deals in secret or broadcast it from every street corner.  The only important thing is that we identify good players and succeed in getting them to sign up.

completely agree, and whether we know in advance about anything the club does or not, ultimately when the window closes on the 31st we need to be better off player wise than we are today. Because that won't be a secret.

I think there's a requirement to get players in as soon as possible because we're going to need every point we can get.

I agree as there's a need for players to strengthen its what constitutes a 'good player' - in lamberts/faulkner eyes  the term 'young and hungry' though now there seems to be a push for 'premier league experienced' players.

I was kind of hoping Lambert had identified the squad weakness and had players in mind and they would be in place by now or at least being sorted, it doesn't take a genius to work out we need a defender and a midfielder

We might not care but other parties involved might well prefer to keep things under wraps until it's all done.
