@thegoalzone: Villa boss Paul Lambert says he has a couple of players in mind to sign but it will depend on finance

I thought the finance was sorted out during randys meeting with him at new year ?

THat's encouraging, he's not going to come out and say we have a load of money is he. I suspect he does have the finance.
The finance for what and who though ?

For the players he's looking at.
Nah ! Do we have any ideas on who he is looking at or is it all top secret again ?

We could tell you, but then we'd have to kill you  ;)

Not a problem :o dont care as long as we do not go down and we sign some quality players. The gun is loaded, all you have to do is pull the trigger after you tell me who we are after ;)

Think part of the problem at the moment is that we need re-enforcements now!  The fact that all appears quiet is somewhat unnerving.  An addition to the back or middle wouldn't have gone amiss against Southampton.  I just hope we don't end up regreting not getting new faces in earlier than it looks like we will do.

The Villa boss admitted that he will try to make “one or two” signings before the transfer window but indicated he will be forced to operate within tight budget specified by owner Randy Lerner.

Lambert said: “I understand the finances of it. The club cannot go into major debt. It’s got to watch itself. It’s something I will meet head on.

“ I have spoken to him. There are one or two lads there that we will try to get. A lot is dictated by finance. We need a bit of strength in the middle of the pitch.

“But prices in January can be so inflated that you can pay through the nose for someone and it’s a guy you maybe don’t want at the club.

"We have to build this club and not let it go back to what has happened before.”

Looks like randy is stalling to give him the money to me .

Sounds similar to me  to what Mcleish was saying  , he reckoned he had no clue whatsoever he was going to be sacked and reading that I don't think randy is going to back lambert financially - the writing may be on the wall tomorrow if we lose.

Lerner can now really go fuck himself. I've had enough of this bullshit. They are totally preparing for us to go down. If that is the case (which it seems highly likely) then I'm not ploughing anymore money into the club this year what so ever.
I will just catch the games on the net and save myself a fortune.
Its beyond a joke now and what hurts the most is it seems to us all that RL really does not care. If he did we would be bringing in the x4 players we are desperate for, just to give us a chance to stay up!

IMO we do have the money, Randy just doesn't want to invest. He needs to sell up asap otherwise he won't get many offers for a Championship team.

At least he sees the middle is the issue, clearly he's already in the process of sorting it but doesn't want to say. So brings me back again to Moussa Sissoko, perfect player for us and not expensive either.

Well we know randy has the money, but it seems to me he's not going to give lambert it to spend.
I really do think lambert will be gone if we lose tomorrow , and if he does have a new man in place he may be one he gives some money to instead.

I think Lerner is stalling on him.

Lambert may well mean that the players we bring in have to fit in with the wage structure. There might not be a problem transfer fee wise (within reason obviously). We seemed happy enough to spend £9m on Clint Dempsey had it come off. Also like Lambert said, he dose'nt want to sign just anybody.

I suspect that would have been at the expense of Benteke, or it was an effort put pressure on Genk.

Whoever is or isn't manager without a decent outlay for transfers this month this club will probably be relegated and it will cost us far more than the £20m or so that may keep us up - a huge gamble.

It's ok trying to run on a tighter budget but not with such a huge risk of relegation , we need to buy quality players - then even if we did go down there would still be saleable assets.

It hasn't been Villa's method to go public about who they are interested in, so why should it be any different now?

It's been rumoured that Lerner has given PL a budget of £10m and if that's correct, then it will need spending wisely, preferably on a couple of experienced players (midfield/central defender) dpending on when Vlaar is back, plus any extra money from selling players if anyone wants our cast offs.

Maybe, although at the time i was watching the transfer window final day and the Sky chap camped outside the training ground said that Lambert had been asked if Dempsey would have come in as well as Benteke and he said yes.

I don't think £10m is enough  considering the amount at stake if relegated.
