It's critical that Randy invests or we will go down and we'll lose a lot more money.

You'd hope that two people heavily involved in finance would be able to see the answer to what is essentially a very basic math question.

I'm confident that the situation will be resolved in the next week .

You've changed your tune eastie.

posted a few days ago that i had heard that wages were still causing a huge problem , eight or nine players on huge money who seldom if ever play at around 20m a season is financial suicide . People need to go before others arrive

You can only trim so much, there can't be that many players on big wages who hardly ever play anyway.

I think something has to give in the next week Paul one way or the other - you either back him with money or sack him - the deadline is moving on and something has to happen one way or the other  in the next week.

Either  lambert will sign  new players or someone will replace him I think, I don't see us going into the last few days of the window with no new signings and deep in crisis.

Like I said earlier I think the saints result will make or break him.

Given the players left I can't understand how our wages could be that high

Given
Bent
Dunne
Warnock
Hutton
Gabby

Are surely the only ones left on really high wages.

Petrov
Makoun

At least part of Makoun's salary should be paid by Rennes and I'd imagine that insurance should cover Petrov's salary.

The club possibly can't be so skint that they couldn't pay salaries for 3-4 players for six months since Dunne and Warnock (both probably 40-60k) leaves next summer so their wages are freed for the next season.

Has anyone calculated how much club would lose money next season if we're relegated?

Agreed with comments on Makoun and Petrov.

Rough figures

Given - 65
Bent - 65
Dunne- 60
Gabby 50
Warnock 45
Hutton 30
Nzogbia 40
£19mil A Year

Old article so figures would be higher now with new TV deal
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/premier-league/8529924/The-cost-of-relegation-from-the-Premier-League.html

I'm sure N'Zogbia would be on more than that.

I doubt it at Wigan he would have been on £20k max as that is their cap doubling his wage should of been enough.

I did leave out Ireland in the list thats another 60k

I'm sure £60k a week was mentioned when we signed him.

Said it earlier, I think at least part of the problem is that we're having to address an area that we thought we were ok in.  We really shouldn't need to sign a central defender as we have 2 experienced internationals in the squad who should be able to bring through the promising youngsters.

I think he had a signing like Coutinho or Aubameyang lined up to be a big creative influence (and he went for Dempsey in the summer remember, so that money is probably still there) and he doesn't want to let that one go but is wanting to add the defender on top.

The extra defensive midfielder is the tough one because I don't really know what to think about that, maybe KEA has been a big disappointment, but if so will it be easy to get the board to fund a replacement for him after 6months?

It depends on where you draw the line at 'hardly ever'.  If you're looking for players who aren't contributing as you would expect for their wages (as in higher earmer = more important to the team) I'd say:-
Given
Dunne
Warnock
Hutton
Makoun
Bent
Ireland

I'd have added N'Zigbia to that also, but he's done well the last few games he's played.  Plus Gabby could be on that list as well.

I appreciate a few of those are on loan, but I'd say we're still paying a big chunk of their wages!

From the bbc...

Aston Villa have an offer for Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho turned down by Inter Milan, report talkSPORT.

Southampton have also expressed an interest in the 20-year-old but Villa were the first to act, although their initial bid was rejected, according to the player's agent.

Coutinho's agent, Cacau Barbosa says: "I can confirm Aston Villa made an enquiry for Coutinho. They want him, but with all due respect for the proposal made to Philippe, at this moment there is still nothing concrete to suggest an exit from Inter."

I know it is a name that has been discussed consistently on here forever but the defensive midfield replacement I

would go for is NRC. Think he would jump at the chance to come back and would walk into our midfield, in fact he could hop

into our midfield on one leg. Can't imagine he is currently on huge wages either.

2 of them are out of contract in 5 months and Ireland has 18 left. There is only Bent ,Given and Nzogbia who can be left on what is classed as high wages then.

No quotes in that at all so it means nothing.  The BBC one has a direct quote from his agent.

Might not end up happening but I don't believe there's no interest.  Maybe we asked for a loan and they said no only a transfer.

No, but they do say that Villa told them it was bollocks.

That whole "no quotes" thing is so VillaTalk.

You would hope at least three of those have had a portion of their wages covered by the clubs they're at. Also we're a Premier League club with good attendances, we should be able to accomodate some players on big wages.
