Our team is notorious for keeping potential transfers very tightly under the wraps, remember last summer when the transfers of Westood for example only became to light when it was basicly done and dusted?

I read an interview with Westwood where he said he knew nothing about a potential deal until the day it happened - deadline day, I think - and that there had been no contact from Villa up to that point.

It has been obvious since November that an extra midfield player was required as the ones presently on the books, as a collective unit, were deficient. Surely somebody has been identified and the process could have been put in place at the back end of December to enable the deal to go through at the start of the window?

Or was the look on Lambert's face Tuesday night the realisation that a) he has been told that no one is coming in, or b) he has been telling RL that the lads are fine and we don't need anyone else, and the debacle on Tuesday showed him quite clearly that what he has is not good enough and it is now too late to start looking for anyone else without panicking.

It looked to me the look of a PL manager who has just watched his team lose to a League Two side, and in the most frustrating way possible.

To be fair to PL he had only had a few weeks to assess what he had in match situations and presumably thought that he needed someone of Westwood's technique late on in the month and did the deal.  But since then he has had another 3 months up to the end of November to see what he had and what is needed so could have started to get the ball rolling in December, surely?

Yes. And in my view any criticism of his body language, demeanour and passive-aggressive post-match mumbling has to be viewed in that light.

Imagine you have just had the worst possible day at work, and before you go home you have to go through it on television, with some tosser from Sky pretending to be your mate but actually trying to make you look a twat.

In the pre match presser he said there was nothing imminent

Indeed £4-5 million for Olsson would be ideal for us.

If Olsson is available from WBA for £4m then we must sign him. Also, see if they'll throw in Mulumbu and all.

I wouldn't undertand it in million years if Lambert haven't seen how utterly horrendous our midfield is apart from Westwood and how badly we need some steel into it. If Lerner & Faulker have put "Sell to Buy" policy now it's just utterly suicidical since getting rid of high earners is nigh impossible apart from probably Bent and without new players we're 100% doomed for relegation.

I can't stand Olsson. I can't put my finger on why i dislike him so much but i do. He's never really stood out for me either whenever i've seen him. Perhaps he's one of those players who you don't appreciate until he plays for you.

Trouble is Lambert obviously bought into this go with youth policy when he took the job. Now he has to go back to them and say "actually its a daft idea Paul/Randy and we need 20m on new players". Obviously the likes of Martinez saw the "plan" off  the record and ran a mile

Coutinho would be awesome and to for a player like that would makes me feel excited for the future, but in the short term we need defenders and strong midfield player or two. IF we can afford all great, but first instance the spine needs to be put in place.
Would be gutted to see us miss out on exactly the sort of player Villa have been crying out for years due to our current injury/defence crisis.
For years we've been really good at being solid and boring and now we get the chance to sign a Brazilian genius and we're going to have to turn him down to get in a grafter..
Would be a shame!

Can't see why Olsson would risk the hatred of Albion fans by moving to us when we're in a far worse position?
He wouldn't, he'd go to someone top 6 though.
