It's a no from me for Dyer.

Never rated him and he doesn't play in a position we desperately need to strengthen.

Kieron Dyer?

Jesus Christ. Have the last five years in which he has been almost permanently injured passed you by?

Well this wouldn't be scraping the barrell... apparently Inter have turned down a 10m+ euro offer from us for Coutinho.
Given our need for defenders and midfielders if we have that sort of wedge for this kid we must have some money to spend.

Or somebody has lost their mind.

Remember that, a month ago when we were putting together a list of targets, the link between midfield and attack was our real weakness, with us just not creating chances for Benteke and Weimann.  Coutinho at that point would've been exactly the right player to spend big money on.  That our defense has fallen apart since has changed the goal posts.

The fact that Inter have found a buyer for Sneijder has probably scuppered our Coutinho bid as they don't need to sell now.

I wouldn't mind someone like Stefan Reinartz from Leverkeusen, only 24 is 6'2" defensive midfielder who can also play at CB and has about 100 games  Bundesliga experience and hasn't played for the national team yet... probably get him for around 4-5 million.

Edit: Just noticed he does have 1 full international cap.

Well if were going for a has been, I'd still go for Mellberg, still playing for div 2 Spain, best player on the pitch against England in the Euro's only a few months ago, so can't be to shabby,
Loads of experience, knows and loves Villa,

What a sight to see him leading out the young players and Helping them and guiding them through the second half of the season to safety, no doubts about him caring as he would give his right arm to help out in a player plus defensive coach type roll for say 18 months

Mellberg would walk into this team.

We need a hairy viking-type, B6 isn't the same without one.

What's George Curtis doing these days?

Would love that sort of defender at the villa now.

Old George is feeling his knees a bit these days - in his 70s and still an imposing man , I know him fairly well  through his daughter jackie and believe me he is still not a man to upset.

Coutinho would be awesome and to for a player like that would makes me feel excited for the future, but in the short term we need defenders and strong midfield player or two. IF we can afford all great, but first instance the spine needs to be put in place.

We met George at Vic Crowe's funeral and he is still what they call a big unit. Players like that don't come along very often. Broke his nose at Notts County in the first minute and refused to come off. There are pictures of him with his nose smashed across his face. He wasn't called the Iron Man for nothing. Send him my best wishes, Eastie, and let him know that he is fondly remembered by those of us who were fortunate enough to see him play for Villa.

Will do dc5 , pity he came to villa at the end of his career and not the beginning- a colossus of a man.

Big Olof could be ideal for 5-18 months. Country mile better than anything we have at CH to be honest. He was good in the Euro's too, looked in good nick.
