we need a Scott Brown type figure in midfield,in fact dodgy hip and all i'd go for him.not sure if he'd relinquish champions league for a relegation dog fight tho'.
Sorry but who?

Scott Brown
I think he may mean Michael Brown who plays for Leeds. He used to play for Fulham and Sheffield United, he likes a tackle.
No, he means Wes Brown.
no i'd prefer Wes Studi

No to players like Cahill and Keane. We don't need over the hill money grabbers at the club for a few weeks, we need experienced 27/28 year olds that still have something to prove for themselves and who'll also settle our youngsters in over a season or two. That's what I'm hoping our Euro Scouting Genius can come up with!

Happy New Year everyone, hope it brings the best for you all, and Aston Villa.

One of those over the hill money-grabbers probably kept us up last season.

I like Bannan but if anyone offered 7 million I would rip their arm out of the socket
For 7 million I'd throw in Ireland and N'Zogbia too and give them a big wet sloppy kiss. Bannan showed promise in our unbeaten run but he's been anonymous since (as have everyone else to be fair). For me though, BB will always blow far too hot and cold.

In fairness, Bannan and Westwood looked very effective as a pair. I think they were both buggered by the 8-0 though.

I think they're both good players, but they're a bit lightweight to play together, particularly in a rubbish 5-3-2 formation.  Either one of them next to an older, harder more experienced centre mid would be good, in a proper 4-4-2 with decent wingers.

I think they were working in that formation when they had a defence behind them and Clark was able to step out. The issue is always going to be the 3rd player, as frankly Ireland and Holman are both fucking useless. I agree they are too lightweight, and I agree a big hard fecker would be great with them. I would then push Bannan further forward, as I think he does have the ability to play the final ball we need. The 3 at the back will only ever work if you have 3 central defenders that are comfortable, and at least one of them can be a ball player. Clark is that for us, but it won't work without having the other 2 knowing the role. Dropping a midfielder into 1 of the positions is ok against a poor side, but 2 out of position in a back 3 is a recipe for disaster. We need 2 more central defenders IMO, one young, one ready to go straight in.

The two of them alongside a Scott Parker, a McCarthy or a Mulumbu type palyer would work fine.

I said elsewhere - not entirely in jest - that we should be poaching Lambert from S'ton, McCarthy from Wigan and Riise from Fulham; to improve our line-up and weaken those of rival teams.

I've rated Rickey Lambert ever since he was at Bristol Rovers

With Westwood seemingly out for a few weeks I really think we're in a pickle in that position. I'd say buying a proper central midfielder who can play the holding role is now the most pressing priority

Don't really know who, other than huddlestone, Derek boateng, frimpong, Livermore, don't know who else

Wonder whether the Swansea game will have any bearing on whether money will be spent in the window and how much?

Weirdly may have been better to get another tonking if it rammed home just how much strengthening we needed...

Points are too precious for that.

Reo Coker free if Westwood is out would be in tomorrow were it possible for me. That boateng fella looked useful. Battle and protect the back 4! Centre half and centre mid before Southampton please!!

Watched a European football show somewhat through a haze this morning and they did a piece on a striker called Wilfried Bony.  He is from the Ivory Coast, plays for Vitesse Arnhem and is currently the top scorer in the Dutch league.  Even through the haze, that name seemed to ring a bell.  Have we been linked with him before?

Yes, apparently we almost signed him in the last window.

I see no reason to go back to the likes of Reo Coker. We can do better than that and can find a better player in Europe who'd command a lower salary.

If we go to Europe, it needs to be somebody who can 'hit the ground running' it can sometimes take a while for overseas players to get up to speed, we can't afford that luxury.

What happened to all the influx of Swedish and Norwegian players that we used to see?
