Lambert has made it clear that youth is something he will still look to sign today. If true, it has to be of a standard that can work with some of our better players and straight into the side.

Why not go with Clark and Herd with Ireland in the middle. there's a better balance there. With Holman and Gabby wide of Benteke.

I suppose on what he means by 'youth', in a way. If he means in the sense of not signing players twenty-nine plus, then I think he's probably right. On the other hand, I don't think another couple of twenty-one year-olds are likely to help us out too much at the moment.

But players twenty-four to twenty-eight are often at the peak of their powers, well-established first-team players of some experience and, as such, cost a fair bit of money. But it's these I think he should be looking at bringing in.

Good analysis from the BBC here about the January transfer window.  To paraphrase Comoli "nearly all players from the continent are for sale".  Let's hope Henke has done his homework...

Several Italian newspapers are linking us with a move for Bologna centre back/right back Federik Sorensen. He's 6"4 and only twenty years old. Played for Denmark's under 21's 5 times and made 17 first team appearances for Juventus when he played there. Would be an interesting signing and hopefully would tighten things up at the back.

Sounds interesting, any fee mentioned?

No fee mentioned, but he's co-owned so it shouldn't cost too much, i'd say about 2.5 million for the full transfer.

Not exactly the experienced player many have been saying we need. More one for the future, although anyone who has had central defence experience would be a plus just now.

I'd offer Lampard a 2 and a half year deal with a coaching job. He can only say no. (yes i have been drinking)

Carew tweeted last night he'd be happy to come & play for Villa for nothing, a few more players with that kind of spirit might not go amiss.

Wasn't he doing that anyway a few seasons ago? Oh, no I just checked. He was being paid by Villa for doing nothing. My mistake.

I prefer Westwood with herd or Clark, don't really think Ireland, Holman or gabby are the answer to provide creativity, would like a couple of  quality creative players signed.

Interesting interview. I see that the players are going to have to 'go again', after Lambert has 'lifted them up'.

This is clearly an admission of a worsening state of affairs, as only last week the players were able to 'pick themselves up'.

Who are you planning to put in central defence?

Vlaar and Baker. (When fit obviously) until then we can carry on with Westwood and Bannan being the midfield hard men.

Managers sometimes have to hide their transfer intentions and thoughts on the playing staff from the media.Even 'Arry has said he has no intention of signing someone before winding down his window and driving to a meeting with an agent.
