Tom Huddlestone anyone?

Strong powerful midfielder, physical presence, decent shot on him , gets stuck in at times- only worry would be his injury record- worth a loan deal for starters.

Big fan of his since his time at Derby, physical presence and connects so sweetly with the ball.  Not massively mobile but I certainly think he could do a holding/quarter-back role in the middle

I've been told by spurs fans that "the Hud" is not the strongest mentally and despite being massive, is a bit of a wuss.  Regardless I think he'd be a good option alongside either Bannan or Westwood but I'd suggest only on loan.

Compared to the players spurs have had in midfield he may seem a bit inferior but compared to our players he would very much be an improvement.

I'd rank huddlestone along Jenas, could be effective but has been fit so rarely that he's just too big a risk.  We got burned by that last year so I'd want to avoid the same again.

The noises from FSW is that fat frank is goIng to leave Chelsea in Jan.  Great short term solution in the middle.

I can't see Lampard wanting to come here.  I reckon Malouda would be a much better bet...he's miles away from their team and I reckon we could get him on loan.

If Lampard cane here - which he wouldn't - can you imagine how inspired he'd be, going from CL football every year (and a victory) at a club where he is a part of the furniture to us and our perennial struggle against relegation?

And Malouda has probably the worst attitude in the PL.

To get any sort of commitment out of him he'd want a 3.5 year deal which'd cost the best part 10m I reckon in wages.
The worry is, he's only be good for maximum half of the contract duration.  But a loan - to put him in the shop window - would be interesting for all parties.

Lampard hardly needs to showcase what he can do via a loan, though, does he?

Lampard is an old pro and I reckon his inspiration would be to get Villa playing again.  He would be ideal.   Get rid of Ireland, Dunne, Makoun,  and you have more than enough to pay his wages.  Just need to right representation to pitch it to him.  PF come on down.

He will get that at QPR.

Probably not, in which case I'd be against signing him as the cost for his full contract would be too much.

Basically his game was built on his "he could have been a marathon runner" stamina i.e. his box to box ability.  Once his legs are gone (if they haven't already) you're left with a player that strikes a ball reasonably well and that is pretty much it.  He doesn't possess great vision, dribbling ability or indeed a particular team ethic mentality.

I like the idea of signing an old pro in this position though.  The opportunity to play "Lampard" and one of either Westwood or Bannan would allow them to be rotated rather than relied upon.  Furthermore the "lampard" could be replaced in the last quarter of matches to preserve his shelf life.  I just don't think Lampard is the right player.

Lampard would not come to villa- forget him as an option, he will get plenty of attractive offers.

It wouldn't be a surpise if he went to QPR and they're in an even bigger mess than us. 'Arry + London + more wages would help I guess.

some of the 'kids' in the team are nowhere near good enough. chris herd at centre half being a prime example, also lichaj, bannan, bennett, weimann, albrighton, delph. kea seems no improvement on what we currently have. Ireland and Gabby are finished. Nzogbia might aswell be. Clark and Baker looked to be developing nicely but after the last 2 games its hard to know if they are really going to make it either. in summary we have a very poor squad. most players are capable of the odd good performance like bannan at liverpool. but they arent good enough frankly to play consistently well for a decent premier league side. Consistency is what players top players.

tomas rosicky would be a good signing I reckon. top professional. former captain of the czech republic. kind of character we need at the club.

if the injury problems for vlaar continue, dawson would be a decent signing.

would love to see a bid for james milner. got to start bidding for good players anyway, at least give the impression we wont go sleepwalking back the divisions sheffield wednesday style.
