I would take Huddlestone too.

Yes, definitely.

Huddlestone would be a good signing, and I think he'd suit the current team and system - but I think we'd struggle to convince him to come here. Maybe on loan?

Prefer it to be with a view to possible permanent deal if all goes well, he is a big strong midfielder with a decent shot and a physical presence about him , I'd be tempted to get Robbie Keane back as well.

As Ozzjim mentioned, Palacios would be good and Huddlestone from the posters above.

In fact both of them please, plus a centre half and a striker.

Huddlestone a risk with his injury record

You're right, but there's not much to choose from out there and I think he'd want to come and prove a point..

Palacios is one of these players who seems to have cost clubs a lot of money but he has'nt really settled anywhere since he left Wigan. Can't say i'm a big fan but he is the type of player we could do with.

A centre mid and a bit of unpredictability in one of the wide roles is needed. It's a shame Ince is going to Liverpool.

Maybe N'Zogbia will shock us.

I think we need:

Martin Laursen
Ian Taylor
Paul Merson
Tommy Johnson
Dion Dublin

oh and BFR.

That'll see us through. Failing that, a couple of big bastards in midfield who aren't too shabby on the ball.

Seeing the way N'Zonzi knitted things together for Stoke last night in front of their back four shows exactly what we need in there. He was a big miss for us in the close season (and is keeping Palacios out).

Friedel out for Given looks like it could be a horrendous piece of business in hindsight.

Friedel is going to complete 3 years at Spurs (and we didn't want to give him 2 years, did we?)

Given is surplus to requirements 1 year into a 5 year contract, probably on similar wages to Friedel but cost £3.5m ontop.

I thought it was a poor signing at the time and have never changed my opinion.  Not because Given isn't a good keeper but because the signs were there that he physically wasn't up to it any more, on a 2 year deal it'd have been ok but he'd never have agreed to that.

I did think we needed to replace Friedel though as he was also starting to struggle a little, I think the move to a side challenging for europe gave him a boost to make it through last year but this year he was struggling before Lloris came in to replace him.  Needed to be replaced with someone in their early 30s rather than mid thirties though.  Guzan always stood a chance of making the grade and in Seigrist we have one of the highest rated youngsters around but we did need someone for a couple of seasons.

You've got it totally wrong there, Friedel wasn't struggling at all, he was playing brilliantly and it was a total shock he got dropped. Yes he is old but he would have been good for 3 more seasons after we let him leave.

Agreed Pav, palacios is just another Ireland or nzogbia, as far from being a Hungry player as you can get, he strikes me as a guy happy to pick up his wages for doing very little.

And there lies the rub in trying to sign experienced players in our position.

I meant type of player football wise, a midfielder holder who keeps it simple, passes and has a bit of experience. Besides, i said i was'nt a fan i'd stay clear of him as well.
