I just have a feeling that Lambert will surprise us with the calibre of 1 or 2 that he brings in in January. Probably from Germany or Northern Europe somewhere.

I think he will get some players with more experience under their belts. The reality is that these new signings in January are going to need to hit the ground running. It's going to be a gamble getting these players from foreign leagues as it is and expecting them to play as we need to straight away. Getting young and inexperienced players I would be a far greater gamble that not even lambert could afford I would have thought.

But who knows what the manager is thinking.

Lambert has said Benteke will not be sold, why is this even a subject? He should be been given a 5 year deal.

The time to look at bringing in young players is in the summer.  I would look to bring in a couple of experienced players on loan to the end of the season.  I would not look to bring in somebody on their 6 week holiday from the MLS.  Keane is another year older than last season and, although he played well for us last season in a few games, I cannot see him being able to raise his game to PL level again.

If PL is able to bring in somebody of quality next month and that will also be around for a few years, great but you usually end up paying way over the top at this time of the year.

Landon Donovan makes more sense than Keane to me.  Younger and more familiar with playing as an inside forward than Keane.  He's had a couple of stints at Everton and done well so he should hit the ground running.

Keane would be no better a fit in the formation we play than Darren Bent. Leave him where he is.

We need a beast for the middle of the park.  I like the look of Westwood, get him a protector. Bent for Ruiz of Fulham in a swap would do nicely.

Actually he'd fit in behind Benteke. Perfect position for him in this league.

No he wouldn't. The way we play that position is an advanced midfielder rather than deep striker. It requires a player of much greater mobility and a broader range of skills than Keane has.

Martin Waghorn and/or Anthony Knockaert could be a decent shout.

Didn't they star in the German remake of The Sweeney?

We need to find our own string pulling goalscorer. Our Suarez, Yorke, van der Vaart, Totti etc.
We need a true number 10 to help Benteke and draw everything together.

Keane is a good player and if he comes so be it but its probably time to move on.

Agreed.

The Ruiz option is a good shout too.  He'll be considered surplus to requirements if Bent joins and is a more natural player wide or behind a striker than Weimann or Gabby.  It would seem to suit both clubs.

Fulham paid over ten million for him - from memory - so there should be a good player in there.
