I have said it before. We need to spend big on a dynamic central midfielder. And I dont get all this doom and gloom over nobody wanting to sign for us.

Sunderland were chasing Europe and we were amongst the dead men when we clicked our fingers and signed up Bent.

Well Jordan Rhodes has been banging the goals in (hatrick last night) and Whittingham looks good again at Cardiff. Shame we didn't go for the two of them if we were buying from lower divisions.

Diame went to West Ham, N'zonzi went to Stoke.

They were out there this summer, I'm sure there's still some lurking in the French league or Bundesliga.

Yup Diame would have been a great signing

Rhodes was certainly someone I was banging on about two seasons' ago. Natural goalscorers can do at any level (look at Ricky Lambert).

True but I suspect Lambert saw KEA as a driving MF rampager ....

Yup Diame would have been a great signing

I was working with a Wigan season ticket holder at the back end of last season, and he was absolutely raving about him, said he was the best player at the club by a mile.

Actually he wasn't playing much for Wigan at the end of the season but from what I'd seen he certainly has the raw ingredients to be a good player.

Is Tim Cahill at galaxy too? Could do worse than taking both Cahill and Keane on loan.

They pretty much play the same position in AMC which is where Ireland has been doing okay.

Would put pressure on Ireland to perform or take his place , this will be our last window so we need to well covered in case of an injury crisis- Keane certainly would walk into this team for me.

Taking two quality experienced players on loan would also mean not a huge outlay so cash to use elsewhere.

Survival is the name of the game and our squad are hugely inexperienced .

Good point eastie, I can see us only having 19 points on the board by 1 January. We need to have a good January to help us stay in this division and take the pressure off. One thing we learned last year, we don't play well under pressure so we should be looking to get to 40 points asap.

Yep, my mate who used to be a coach at Wigan and still helps out there a bit reckons he's superb.

In January 2011 selling the club would have been a lot easier. A tough few months since O'Neill's sudden departure but we could have argued that a horrendous injury list for a lot of the games in the first half of the season accounted for that. And I remember at Bent's press conference him mentioning Downing and Young's crossing abilities as well as that of Albrighton who was bang in-form for being a big reason for joining.

Selling the Aston Villa "brand" in Jan 2013 will likely have to be done by offering generous wages for anyone decent.

It is so desperate that the best we can hope is to get someone like Frimpong on loan and hope they perform well enough to get us to the promised land. it is that desperate.

I'd have Keane back in a hearbeat. He's got the ability to make goals from nothing. He'll offer far more end product than Ireland, so I'm not too worried about Stevie losing his place in the side. I won't lose sleep over it. Wouldn't be adverse to Cahill either. Has a lot of desire and works hard. Great movement in the box and could chip in. Just the sort of experience and attitude we need more of.

Aside from loans, we need to be making 2-3 really top purchases.

Someone like Keane to sit behind Benteke in Ireland's position would be good. Ireland is doing well, but needs more goals and assists.

I keep hearing about Keane, I'm not so sure myself
