If true that hoolahans contract ends in July then I would be happy to see lambert bring  him in as he looks a decent midfielder who would be available for little cost , if bent goes then we probably will need another striker in to replace him but things are looking a lot healthier than a fortnight ago- I think he has hit on a system that suits the players now and we are beginning to see good signs.

Hoolahan is already 30, wouldn't want another 30 year old player on long contract. Better to look at players who are 24-28.

Two year contract would be fine - we need a bit of experience and he would probably cost less than £2m with his deal running out.

Think Norwich have a years option on his contract.

Said it a million times but the one to get from Norwich is Pilkington.

You say we need experience, but all of Hoolahan's experience is in the lower leagues bar this season and last. He does look a good player but I can't see how he's much different from the players we have now.

Hoolahan will not sign a two year at Villa.  That'd never happen with a 30 year old player.

Nothing wrong with signing a 30 year old. It's making sure it's a 30 year old that will give value for money that's more important. Anyone regret Villa signing a 30 year old Andy Townsend?

Loads of 30 yr old players sign 2 year contracts- maybe an extra yr option - why would he never leave a club like Norwich for villa , a much bigger club with a manager who he loved playing for and bigger wages , great fan base and stadium?

The days of signing older players on 5 yr contracts should be over as we have had our fingers burnt often enough.

Norwich may well go down in any case in which case pilkington may be on the radar too.

Ba is class, would love to see him come in.
Exciting being linked with strikers when we don't even really need any!
I just fancy anyone Lambert has his eye on to be quality, such a nice change from MON.

Striker?  He's a defender.

Yeah I know wasn't talking about Demba! But I can see how that read!
Was just replying to the link about Ba the defender who looks like a real prospect, saw a Youtube compilation last week (he looks quality) but also saying how exciting it is to be linked with strikers like Aubameyang

It's all about value for money, especially now the way the finances are.  We got good value from 30 year olds like Townsend and Merson.  Far less so from Emile Heskey.

I'm all for the youth revolution but if you strategicially place a couple of older heads amongst this lot it will do us the world of good. Older heads that are good influences as opposed to some of the disruptive wankers we've had in recent memory. That's why losing Petrov has been such a blow. We need a couple opf players whether they are starters or those that come of the bench to add some stability and depth to the squad.

At this point, I would say that we need starters who can come straight into the side and hit the ground running.  We have enough squad players who can do a job for the odd game and now need quality players who will go straight into the side like the aforementioned Townsend and Merson did.

I know it's going over old ground it's not going to happen, but after watching Man City play yesterday I was thinking how Gareth Barry would be the ideal fit in our midfield at the moment.
