A few people are very adamant on VT that the finance Lambert thought he was getting this month, has been pulled. Would explain why we've not brought anyone in (yet)
If its true that the money has been pulled then I think these RDM rumours may well be true!

If that we're true, and I was Lambert, I'd have walked by now.

Birmingham mail has just posted an article from PL. depressing stuff!!! He said more than once that he would 'be happy to go with what we've got' when asked about 'trying' to bring a couple in.
Hinted again that the budget were working too is low.
I fully expect us now not to bring anyone in at all.

Pat Murphy wrote an article saying Villa will back Lambert, so there could definitely be something in these RDM rumours.

Here's the quote VinnieChase84 was referring to:

Quote from: Paul Lambert
“I’ll work with it, and if I’ve got to go with the group I’ve got then I’ll go with it. I don’t have a problem, I’ve got nothing but prauise for these lads.

I disagree. We have Benteke, Weimann, Bent, Gabby and Bowery as striking options. Benteke/Weimann have 17 between them! The problem is that the rest of the team (especially midfield) are not chipping in with any goals and are also still lacking in creativity. We don't have alot of money, so to spend 5m out of the little that we do have is just a waste. We need quite a few midfielders and a couple of defenders before we even entertain the thought of getting another striker.

Bear in mind he is talking if he doesn't make signings, not that he won't.

Paul Lambert would be content to trust his current squad to get Villa out of trouble and “go with the group I’ve got” if Villa fail to make any signings this month.

Speaking on the second anniversary of the club breaking their record transfer for Darren Bent, Lambert admitted there “no chance whatsoever” of the claret and blues spending big again during the current transfer window.

Lambert is actively looking to make a couple some shrewd signings within the next 13 days after discussions with Randy Lerner, but confirmed it would be in keeping with the claret and blues’ prudent policy.

Asked about if there would be a surprise spending spree like the £24 million capture of Darren Bent and £6 million Jean Makoun under Gerard Houllier two season ago, Lambert replied: “No chance, none whatsoever.

“I think Darren came in and the lad Makoun didn’t he? No, absolutely not a chance.

“We’re trying to do something within the structure of the club, but we won’t be able to do that.”

Lambert spent £20 million on signings last summer and asked if he knew about the financial conditions he would be working with, he replied: “I get on really well with Randy.

“He really has been great with me. “I understand where he’s coming from on a lot of things and it is what it is.

“I’ll work with it, and if I’ve got to go with the group I’ve got then I’ll go with it. I don’t have a problem, I’ve got nothing but prauise for these lads.

“They give me everything they’ve got. Yes, I’d like one or two more results to get us out that bottom end. I’d like to get to a cup final and those sort of fans like every Villa fan would.

”Lambert was reluctant to divulge any details of his confidential conversations with Lerner. He added: Randy’s been great with me, I can’t ask for any more from him. We’ll wait and see.

“I think the conversation between me and him is private, I’m not going to tell you what happened and that’s no disrespect to you, but it’s a privatre thing.”

We do not want bloody RDM. We want Lambert to turn things around with some backing from Lerner ffs.

So until we have the full picture in front of us it's still up in the air as to whether Lambert is 'beyond useless'.

His performance to date means it isn't up in the air at all.

While we're waiting, Staunton's, Ugo's and Taylor's view on our problems

I like Bruno's comments the best.

Stan reckons the best way of dealing with our lack of experience is to sign Jake Livermore?

Its not been great, but its still far too soon to form hardline judgments one way or the other.

Read back mate, the logic was because we'd been linked to a striker Lambert was 'beyond useless'.
