I wouldn't give the newcomers a start just yet, and I'd leave the inconsistent ones out. Baker should retain his place, as should Guzan :

guzan
lowton vlaar baker lichaj
herd
el ahmadi holman

delph

bent weimann

subs : given clark bennett johnson ireland n'zogbia bowery

From the BBC website ...

Villa have failed to win their last 12 Premier League matches. If they fail to win in Tyneside they will set a new unwanted top-flight club record.

The Villans have not scored more than once in their last 10 league matches. It's their longest run without netting at least twice in a match since 1999.

Need to boss the midfield to stand a chance here so would probably play a five of

Holman, Delph, KEA, Herd, Warnock (yes Warnock).

Bent can't play up front so Wiemann starts.

Baker and Vlaar in central defence and drop Given to shake him up.

To be fair, I expect to lose regardless of selection/formation so would be chuffed with a McLeish-esque point today.

And if I recall correctly, even then we were regularly drawing and winning 1-0.

I'd happily take a draw but tbh sorry to say I've written today off already.  PL will then have 2 weeks to work all the new signings into a re-vitalised team ready for the season to really kick off for us starting with a win against Swansea - then onwards and upwards!

I'd take a draw but if level with 10 minutes left it would be great to see the manager go for the win.

Shocking fact! We have been making these terrible statistics for a while now, they might get worse before they get better. I'm not confident about today but I'm feeling more confident over our future.

I would take a loss today even it shows improvement, fight and confidence returning to the team. We then have 2 weeks off for our new manager and new players to get to know each other more and work on everything.

2-1 defeat, Ron to score for us from a corner. Now that would be something.

All right lads, a Geordie in peace here, just after a few answers before the game tomorrow;

Quote
Our neighbours down the road are hailing Martin O'Neill as a messiah, the consensus on Tyneside is that it's a house built on shifting sands; as fans of a club he managed, what do you see for sunderland's future under O'Neill?
A busy window for you, what are your thoughts of the new recruits?
A few pundits are tipping you for the drop, is this fair?
Which Villa player do you predict will have a big season?
Which Villa player do you predict will have a disappointing season?
What's a realistic aim for Villa this season? Where have you strengthened to achieve this?
Who will win the Premier League this year and why?
How do you see the top 6 panning out? and why?
Which teams will be relegated and why?
Which new Premier League players are you looking forward to seeing?
Who will be your danger man/men against Newcastle?
Which Newcastle players are you worried about?
Finally, what do you reckon the score will be?

Cheers for any answers in advance and sorry if this is the wrong place to put it.

Dave

Dave, N'Zogbia has been shocking for us - did Newcastle fans see a good player?

what worries me is that it will take Lambert time to get the players to gel together and play the way he wants, thats supposing they're good enough. By the time it all comes together it could be too late, fingers crossed for today but i'm not expecting a lot.
