I'm still going to watch games illegally. Fuck you Scudamore and fuck you Murdoch. I'll still with loads of buffering and not being able to see the ball.

Translation:  You're rich and you have something I want, so I'm going to steal from you, but only a bit, and you won't really notice.

Alternatively go to the game live?  Its much better, and there is little to no buffering depending on where you sit

Alternatively, I'll go to pretty much all the home games as I have a season ticket, but realistically I can't get to all the away games, and seeing as you won't let me see them legally, I am forced to break the law if I want to watch them live.

You're not forced to break the law, you choose to. Big difference there.

It shouldn't be against the law anyway, piracy is a business model problem, and this is an excellent example.

The PL has the finances and infrastructure to have every game broadcast, they could easily stream each game online, and people would pay for it. That site that streamed Villa games for a fee, for example. The clubs could charge for online season tickets.

But instead they lock the games away, and any fans who try to watch them, if they can't get to the game is labelled a pirate. The football industry is like the music industry pre-iTunes.

I'm not going to feel bad about breaking the law when they don't provide a legit way to watch the game for fans who can't travel to every match.

Yes, but you can't have the ability to stream and watch any match you fancy AND big money being paid by Sky for the rights.

Dont get me wrong, I spend as much time watching us on dodgy streams as the next man, but I totally understand Sky trying to protect the stuff they've just handed over £3bn for, and the PL doing the same for the product they go out and ask for £3bn for.

The reason Sky pay so much for the rights, and therefore want to protect them once they've got them, is because the football is pretty much their entire business.

Take away live football, and their channel packages look way, way less attractive. In the past, you might have said Sky Movies are a compelling product for people to subscribe to, but these days, with the various ways of choosing what you want to watch (online), even that must be a dying product.

I don't subscribe to Sky Sports at present, but would pay a reasonable amount for good quality, legal streaming of all Villa games.

Is this an option for the future do we think?

If it does then i would imagine it would be the end of collective rights being sold and you'd get Man Utd, Liverpool selling streams of their matches and raking it in compared to smaller clubs and even more of a closed shop.

I remember when the Sky money was meant to subsidise lower ticket prices. Still waiting for that to happen.

True, which is probably why Sky should get in on the ground floor. Pubs are watching foreign channels, tonnes of fans watch overseas streams. They're in the best position of any media company to launch high quality paid-for streams, either as a subscription or PPV (and people will pay), they'd make a fortune if they do it right. They're only going to lose money if they fight the switch to online viewing rather than traditional broadcasts, if they embraced the change there's a much larger potential audience. They make a fortune by charging people to watch football. How much more would they earn if they could broadcast pretty much every team's games?

Having said that,. there might be a reason I spend my day sitting on internet forums instead of running Sky.
