I wouldn't want everyone complaining we don't go for OGS if we appoint Lambert.  Especially when the evidence to support OGS as being the best candidate is what exactly?????

He has gone into management and has progressed at the lower levels.  He is inexperienced but many people in the game say he has what it takes to get to the top.  He would appear to have a vision of playing a modern style of football.  Twelve months ago what was the opinion of Rodgers and Lambert.

The vision I have of Villa is that we will never buy our way to the top so have to go with a manager that builds a team around what we develop through the academy so that the team grows in stature over a number of years.

OGS is inexperienced, probably a bit naive, but will take chances that more experienced managers would not as they show more safety first thinking.  He will make mistakes but I would accept that if he can build a young united squad that believes in the club.  He could be lucky and find 5 or 6 young players that develop into very good players together.  This I believe is our only chance of breaking into the top four.

I'll take OGS. I'd take Olga Korbett over McLeish or McCarthy!
and Sooty!

Incidentally, that inexperience/naviety could be quickly nullified by appointing an experienced assistant manager.

Top four? Top half would do me.

If it is going to happen, OGS will resign after the match tomorrow.  He obviously has a great affinity with Molde and it is whether he feels he can break away now.  If he is fiercely determined to make it as a top manager he will overcome loyalty to the club.

There was nothing in the press conference that said one way or another whether he will be our next manager or not.

he wont resign if he hasnt been offered the job yet, which he hasnt because there are other candidates in the mix

He cannot accept an offer if he is still manager of Molde.  Who is to say an offer has not been made.  It could be that the club laid out the deal and said we would be very interested in you taking it up but go away and think about it.  In this scenario the next move has to be from OGS and that means tendering his resignation.  'Other candidates' could be just a smoke screen.

At the end of the day, you do not know, I do not know and it is all speculation.

Top half would do for me over the next 2 or 3 years but I am looking further into the future than that.

No offer has been made yet as we have other candidates to speak with- it is very simple!

Ive just come back from London. I first read this OGS news on a crowded commuter train. I was not impressed. I was of the opinion that Paul Lambert was a done deal and we had got the manager the majority wanted

I just dont see what he has done. Totally unproven in English football and why I ask has he not began in the lower leagues and built a reputation before moving upwards to a club of our size and history. Paul Lambert (who I now find is to be interviewed
early next week) has built a big reputation for attractive football and impresses me no end.

Before I went down south somewhere on this thread a post said never underestimate the Villa Board in their ability to get things wrong.

Can you seriously see  Solskjaer getting any respect from the likes of Collins Dunne and N'Zogbia

If Paul Lambert isnt the chosen candidate it will be a travesty of justice!

Quote from: The Daily Telegraph
Lerner is thought to have been impressed by Solskjaer but the Villa owner has returned to the United States to consider whether to make him a formal offer straight away, or look at other candidates first.

I'd say this is close to where we're at atm. Based on his comments I think OGS will accept the job if he's offered it.

I think you're confusing events at B6 with the Birmingham 6.

If I was Collins,Dunne of N'Zogbia I'd be more worried about trying to impress somebody who has more trophies and medals at the very highest level than they will ever have between them.

It's things like this that erode people's trust in journalists. They were slow out of the blocks on the story in the first place, because they decided it was just `internet gossip,' and a dreary, humdrum club like Villa was never going to do anything they didn't expect. But having caught up at last, they have to pretend they're one jump ahead by continually `calling' a decision which hasn't been made. It's embarrassing.

agreed. well put

That's what I was about to say (about Damon's post)

No offer has been made yet as we have other candidates to speak with- it is very simple!

How can you draw that conclusion.

Villa are looking for a manager.  Lerner will have talked about his vision for the club, what the club has etc., etc.  He could have even talked about how much they might pay a manager and that there are other candidates but he will not move on to another until one has been discounted.  It is still up to OGS then to say he would be interested in taking it further.  In this way no offer has been made.

Some people think Lerner is stupid in football matters but he is an intelligent businessman and understands law.

I do not see how the above could make OGS a liar based on what I have heard him say today.  As for the club, they have not commented so how can you say I am basically saying they are liars.
