Id be more than happy with Solskjaer as manager. Like I said on another thread he had the balls to step out of Fergies shadow and go back to his own country to learn his trade unlike Bruce and other junior Fergies who like to keep as many link as possible to old red nose.

Also a Manure season ticket holder I work with says it’s the common belief up there that Solskjear will be one of the best managers to have played under Fergie and a lot of Manure fans want him to be there next manager.

I always thought he would end up playing for villa towards the tail end of his Utd career!

Strange one this...

Fergie has said that OGS always wanted to get into management and would takes notes after every training match and he thinks OGS is set for the hot seat when the big man retires...
He was an exciting player and could really work out for us

However...

2 Things, fergie has said this about our last manager in a letter of recommendation... and the other, Fergie doesnt have a great record for his superstars going into management... Ince, Hughes, Bruce, Keane,  etc (actually a huge list) (McLeish from his time at aberdeen! lol)

Some reservations, but overall yes.  Would give me positive feelings for next season anyway.

It's got to the stage now where I'd be very disappointed if its not him.

I hope we sign him.

I'm glad we're even trying.

Holt, Nursey, Whelan, Holloway, Baggie Bill Howell: fuck off. You can't put Aston Villa in a pigeonhole.

Im just worried that SAF has provided another letter to RL to give his glowing reference of him

I doubt if Randy came up with this idea all by himself.

Maybe it's the 40+ years of being a cynical Villa fan that makes me feels cautious about this prospect.

Who at Villa identified OGS? anyone know? Most people on here have been slating the club for not having any "football" men on the board. What has changed since the same board picked McShit last year?

I'm trying to convince myself that this would be a masterstroke but I always end up thinking that Wolves have got a better, more proven Norwegian manager than OGS.

I really hope I'm totally wrong

A risk  - yes

A shift to a younger, more hungry manager, with ideas - yes

A stepping stone to Man U - not in the short term.  Anybody who takes over directly from Ferguson is an idiot, let someone else fail first.

Go for it.  The only name on the list that:

1. Is a realistic possibility
2. Excites me

If you really want a young manager with fresh ideas for the sake of it then why not Martin Laursen?

Evidently no one else will take a chance on him because of his desire to manage Villa in the future

OGS always comes across like an intelligent guy with a good attitude and a level head. He's got the makings of a top manager and has learned from one of the greatest. He also spent 10 years at Utd and so it goes without saying, that he's going to favour a passing, attacking game. As a striker too, he'll never leave Benty twiddling his thumbs like McLeish did.

It's a gamble, but in my mind, if someone really is the real deal, then they can make the step up. Fergie seems sure OGS is gonna make it. I know he loved Eck, but he's right more often than he's wrong. In the case of OG, Fergie probably see's him as more of a protege than most of his former stalwarts, certainly as OGS has adopted a similarly attractive style of footballing.

Go for it. Like others have said, I think an appointment like this is brave, exciting and we would probably be (I hope) quite patient and allow him time to change things round. We can be patient. We were patient with O Leary in his first season when we were struggling until Xmas time before going on a strong run. We were also patient with O Neill in his first season when we didn't win in 14 odd games. I don't like the perception that it takes 2 games and we're baying for managerial blood. The fact is McLeish was ludicrous appointment. No one wanted him or his ugly brand of football. We still gave him a fair amount of backing initially, once the shock of appointment had settled.

My other thought was if he has got a team the equivalent of our division 2 as someone has said on here playing good football then surely with the better calibre of player (arguable at times I know) at his disposal at Villa Park then he can do something really good.

Surely it's as much about the idea and the philosophy a person has in football as much as the experience.  How do you gain that experience if no one is prepared to give you a shot.

I wouldn't be upset if we ended up with lambert but it is safe. It is same old same old. We've been crying out for a change, for something fresh for years. Someone who can potentially slot in to what we have with the academy and have a villa way. I don't think that will happen with Lambert.

Not my first choice but I wouldn't be against the appointment. Would inject a bit of excitement at least.

Nice to see the board thinking outside the box this time instead of the usual tired choices though.

About sums it perfectly for me
