Pretty even first half. They could have scored, we should have. I'd still like to see Ireland on

Good God. If the season went on another twenty games, they'd be champions

Decent first half for us in my book, I'd rather we'd go in level than go in with a one goal advantage. Defending a lead seems to be our Achilles heel this season.

It was a stonewall penalty. His arm was way out, and he gained advantage from it, as Villa player behind him. There was plenty of room front of him to avoid. Being silly doesn't excuse the player.

But we would have missed.

Considering our situation, that was very, very uninspiring.
Now is when the worry starts for me.
Woy will know he needs to change things if he wants to win this and will make the necessary changes. the question is, does our manager ?

Trouble is these days that "ball to hand" is given.

Hand ball is supposed to be deliberate, but refs now give penalties if the arm is away from the  body, i.e. the player has made a "deliberate" attempt to make his body wider.  This seems to be the standard.  Ergo it was a penalty.  His arm was out there to stop the ball.

I don't think it was a pen.  Even if it could have been interpreted as such on the replay you can't expect the ref to give that in real time.  Gabby's 2 misses are more poignant if we're honest.

I don't think so, Mac. He had no idea  ... like me most of the time.

For all those worrying about the Wigan score, I take solace in the fact that if there was any team I'd fancy to come back from a four goal deficit at the moment, it'd be Newcastle.

Gabby's touch has gone.  The pace seems still to be there, but uninspiring finishes.  Cash in.

4-0 Wigan

The Maloney and Di Santo goals, numbers 3 and 4 are lovely. They appear to have torn Newcastle a new one in every single way. The are a very confident team right now and that starts with the manager.

I know it's a bit of a delayed reaction, but could somebody please tell me where Albrighton is today?

He's turning away from the ball expecting the player in front of him to volley it. Would have been incredibly harsh to give a penalty for that, no intent.

It was a penalty. His HAND changes the path of the ball. It's a penalty.

Was it deliberate? That's kind of a big part of whether it should be given as handball or not.

It come from quite a distance away, but he's clearly expecting the useless twat in front of him to clear it and is starting to turn to run up the pitch.

It's one of that you sometimes see given, but people would be furious if that was given against us.

It doesn't matter if it's deliberate. If I'm stood on the line, and a shot is smashed at me and it hits my hand. And I know fuck all about it - a penalty is given. Because my hand stopped the ball. His hand stopped the ball, in the box, it's a penalty. Almost every handball that's given isn't done deliberately.
