Very pleased with the last 24hrs turn of events, hope and expect Lambert to reach an agreement with our lot pretty quickly. IMO he has been the stand out candidate from day one and exactly what we need. If there is a downside, it may suggest things are still a little tight on the spending front for next season again. Having said that, even with pennies to spend, I'd expect an improvement in results and performance. Withou jumping the gun, the board deserve praise for getting their man.

I doubt there's a market for us finishing above Liverpool next season but I reckon it'd be worth a tenner of anyones money.

Why does it suggest there is little money to spend?
I actually think there is a decent kitty. Lambert is obviously quite desperate to move and though Norwich to Villa is obviously a step up, if he thought he had little to spend could he really be arsed with moving? I doubt it.
He will be backed. Apart from anything else, he has to be. The club have all but announced that a rebuilding has to take place or at least thats part of what I read into the statement when Mcleish was sent packing. They know its time to invest in the squad.

Had to turn talk sport off this morning...

Are villa really a bigger club than Norwich

Villa only have 20,000 attendance

Mcleish did a good job and kept us up

Villa fans fickle cos last year when McLeish was appointed we moaned and are still moaning 12 months on...

Villa is a fallen club in turmoil

Either we are deluded about the club or media just hate us!

I flicked it on the radio to hear the Sports News and then 'Quinny' and that other twat were on, turned off straight away - how people like that are deemed experts and get national radio coverage I'll never know.

I'm sure Lambert will have reasonable funds. More than he'd have at Norwich, anyway, and more than he's ever had at any stage during his managerial career so far. In any case, I think the guy can do a lot with £10-15m.

Whelan and Martinez? It was only a couple of days ago that Whelan commented we hadn't made any approach for Martinez. I really don't know what his latest outburst is about.

He's probably gutted nobody bit on Martinez, giving him a nice fat compo payout.
The shrivelled old bollock.

Average wage at Norwich: About £10,000/week

Average wage at Villa: About £40,000/week

That's the difference.

I think he'll be given some backing.  £10-15m sounds about right to me.

It depends what you class as significant funds I suppose. It depends of course on what dead wood can be shifted and removed from the wage bill, but I see a spend of around 10 to 15 million?

We can never be sure but if we were looking to start throwing money at this project again, it could be argued there would have been managers with a perceived higher profile in the mix. I'm thinking guys like AVB, Benitez, Capello and that type.

I can see there being a reasonable net spend, ideally if we could sell a Dunne/Collins and or Warnock that'd free up wages and some money as well.

Can't put my finger on it, but there is something about Lambert I don't like.  Possibly influenced by friends who work at Colchester United who feel that he did the dirty on them.  Most Colchester supporters liked him but he wasn't particularly well liked by a some of the staff bfore he walked (not playing staff).  The good part is that this dislike was down to personality not ability.

If he comes I will back him all the way.

If the club had gotten to where they want to be wages wise, then the released Heskey, Guzan, Beye & Cuellar gives us scope to spend again.  Probably 4 players of £40k a week average there, although you'd need to factor in Holman as part of that.  So three more with a fees budget of £10-15m would give Lambert some room to move in the market, plus anyone else that is sold.

Those three all in the last year of their contracts now aren't they? We should be able to move those on if we don't ask too much of a fee, but the squad is already three down on last year (well two actually, Holman in) and absolutely needs investment. I have a hunch that's what it'll get too!

I cannot find anything to confirm he has walked out on Norwich.

But if it all goes through I suggest the first thing Paul Lambert does is offer Agbonlahor in a straight swop for Grant Holt.

Then at least we would have a proper centre forward for next season.

We might have to pay them some cash ontop.

So according the Whelan we're not a big enough club for Martinez, that sort of delusion is surely enough to be sectioned.

has he just said that ?

He said it yesterday. Still think he's ace?

yep,  he's kept his man against all the odds,
he dont care what people like you and me think of him and his club, he batts for them, i like that.
i might not like what he says, but he's got no loyalty for me or my club,

you might like the Mcleish way of bigging up other clubs, i dont , i'd rather someone who just cares for his own club and dont give a toss about what anybody else thinks, like Whelan

I dont like McLeish's way of doing anything to be honest.

But regarding Whelan, if only there was some way he could stick up for his club without having a dig at others or spinning a load of bullshit to make him seem more impressive.
I dont see anything admirable in that. He's a bullshitting, delusional, self-publicising fantasist prick.
Even Lord Cackbeard: Bastard of the skies has more integrity than Whelan.

By the way, he "kept his man" because his man wasn't wanted. Not much of an accomplishment. He'll certainly say it is though.

your probably right in a lot of what you say,
i just see the chairman of Wigan the smallest piss pot club in the prem, up against giants in the footballing world, batting way way above there level, he's the underdog,

i always stick up for underdogs its just my natural reaction, even when they act a bit like twats, i still find an excuse,
its just me i cant help it
