So according the Whelan we're not a big enough club for Martinez, that sort of delusion is surely enough to be sectioned.

has he just said that ?

He said it yesterday. Still think he's ace?

Martinez's stock will never be as high. I think Wigan will go down this season. Having said that I also think Norwich will if PL comes to us. I hope we said no to Martinez and DW is trying to save face.

I think you are right... I think martinez has made a mistake to move away from his 'dad' whelan. I would have gladly accepted the fella at VP but its a case of 'next please'...

The way Whelan talks about Martinez is that the only team other than Wigan that he could manage would be a "Greatest Ever Players Living or Dead XI". What a plonker. I hope the penny drops with Martinez too.

has he just said that ?

It's quoted on sky sports. Something along the lines of 'Villa are a fantastic club with fantastic fans, but they are not a big enough club for Martinez.'

fair enough, just hadnt seen it, he spins a good old line does Whelan

yep,  he's kept his man against all the odds,
he dont care what people like you and me think of him and his club, he batts for them, i like that.
i might not like what he says, but he's got no loyalty for me or my club,

you might like the Mcleish way of bigging up other clubs, i dont , i'd rather someone who just cares for his own club and dont give a toss about what anybody else thinks, like Whelan

Without Lambert and Rodgers, Norwich and Swansea will have poorer seasons and could well go down.  That, combineed with the unlikelihood of all the promoted teams staying up again, will probably save Wigan and rob us of a 10/11 style end of season giggles.

Seems like he's got Martinez believing that its Wigan this year and Real Madrid next year. He's kept his man anyway, so he cant be that stupid.

Paul Lambert's representatives are to meet with Aston Villa today as the Norwich manager looks set to switch to their Premier League rivals.

Lambert has emerged as the leading target for the Villa Park vacancy and Sky Sports revealed on Wednesday that the Midlands side were ready to make an official approach.

It is understood that the highly-regarded Scottish boss had a row with the Canaries board on Wednesday night, which could hasten his departure for Villa.

The Villans have been searching for a new manager following their decision to axe Alex McLeish earlier this month after just one unhappy season at the helm.

Lambert has earned plaudits throughout the game for his achievements with the Canaries as he guided the Carrow Road club to back-to-back promotions before enjoying an impressive first season in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Roberto Martinez were earlier in the frame for the Villa job, with the former Manchester United striker opting to stay with Molde, while Wigan's Martinez is due to remain at the DW Stadium despite also being linked with Liverpool.

Villa chairman Randy Lerner stated when McLeish was axed that he was looking to bring in a "new manager who sees the club's potential and embraces our collective expectations".

And it appears that Lambert fits the bill, despite the Canaries previously vowing they would fight to retain his services and the former Colchester, Wycombe and Livingston boss stating recently he was happy in his current post.

I dont like McLeish's way of doing anything to be honest.

But regarding Whelan, if only there was some way he could stick up for his club without having a dig at others or spinning a load of bullshit to make him seem more impressive.
I dont see anything admirable in that. He's a bullshitting, delusional, self-publicising fantasist prick.
Even Lord Cackbeard: Bastard of the skies has more integrity than Whelan.

By the way, he "kept his man" because his man wasn't wanted. Not much of an accomplishment. He'll certainly say it is though.

Had to turn talk sport off this morning...

Are villa really a bigger club than Norwich

Villa only have 20,000 attendance

Mcleish did a good job and kept us up

Villa fans fickle cos last year when McLeish was appointed we moaned and are still moaning 12 months on...

Villa is a fallen club in turmoil

Either we are deluded about the club or media just hate us!

The way I see it, Whelan is doing Martinez's career some serious damage. But there you go. In conclusion, Liverpool discussed the manager's job with Martinez, decided against making him an offer; Villa, as far as I can tell, and going by everything I have read, didn't even approach Martinez.

It actually bemuses me why Whelan has to even mention us in any context with Martinez staying.  Is he sure we approached Martinez, it's all been media speculation hasn't it? Maybe he's getting confused with us and Liverpool.

Even if he genuinely and incorrectly believes we are not a big enough club for Martinez  I find it unprofessional, disrespectful and ungentlemanly he didn't include "With all due respect to Aston Villa....."

That he didn't says all you need to know about Whelan.
