Reasonably happy with Lambert. Would have preferred Rodgers but thought Lambert was less of a risk because his playing style would suit our existing players better, and if we're skint, like it or not we have to get something from them. Hopefully he'll bring some stability to the club after two seasons of turmoil. More importantly, I hope Lerner backs him with money, so he doesn't start off on the back foot because as it stands we have a very poor team IMO

Pat Murphy in thinly veiled dig at Aston Villa shock.

The picture of him on the article author bit is a shocker. Maybe someone else is not a fan too.

Lambert and Villa, and Rodgers and Liverpool actually suit both clubs very well.

I prefer Rodgers as a manager but he is more suited to Liverpool than Villa with the players at his disposal...similarly I think Lambert will do a better job at Villa than Rodgers would have been able to do for the same reasons.

It would have taken a long time and transfer activity for Rodgers to get his playing style working here, and I feel Lambert will be able to adjust and use the playing resources and funds at his disposal more effectively in the short term. It wont take long for Rodgers to get Liverpool playing the way he wants them to, and I believe theres more chance of Lambert putting us back in the top 10 than Rodgers would have done next season.

Wasn't Bent the one convinced it would be Lambert? If so then he can't be unhappy with the appointment. I hope we find a young target man though and not Holt.

I don't like him either, but how is he a twat? Looks to me like he managed (in his own way) to keep his key employee for another season.

He looks rather foolish after bigging up Martinez only to have him rejected by two clubs in a few days. But you are right, maybe his aim all along was to shine a light on ay approach to try and make Martinez leaving uncomfortable.

In which case, I suppose you are right, he has kept his man. if I was Martinez I would not be happy with Whelan at all though.

Oh no, after all his yap, he's been able to keep hold of a mediocre manager? I don't think Martinez was ever going anywhere. If neither Villa nor Liverpool are big enough for a manager that can only achieve relegation battles then who is?

Tell you what, Whelan has done a great job of convincing people he has a saleable asset. In reality he hasn't, but there's always a few that think its a goer. Thank god our board aren't the idiots a few on here make them out to be.

Watch them bloody well appoint him now.

I like the fact Lambert took his coaching badges in Germany. I reckon we will win the FA cup in a penalty shoot-out next season.

Not the first time that Prat has had a dig.

At least we no longer get those badly researched articles from him in The Post.

That is my saving grace fro him, that he takes a lot of his inspiration from Germany and Hitzfeld. Hopefully he will be much more adaptable than MON. His transfer dealings almost all UK based I think, so that aspect I hope he expands on a little bit too, because even if given 30 million this summer, he needs to be very creative with every penny.

Lambert was my first choice so very happy if it happens...plus it's pissed the Norwich fans off no end which is even better. A season in the Prem and all of a sudden they think they are some massive force and just as big a club as we are.

I like how this is announced in the media - both radio 1 & 5 news state that since Whelan has announced Martinez is staying at Wigan, Lambert has become favourite to be Villa boss.

How is it that that round faced northern cock is omnipresent in our managerial searches. My one wish for the Villa next year (after winning the league/FA Cup double) is that we send Wigan down on the last day of the season.

If him being like MON means we have wembley visits and top6 finishes - I'll take that over the last two seasons.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll be making £20 million plus net outlays each summer and (fortunately) won't be maxing out on player wages. I doubt mon would take us to top 6 finishes with the current squad and strategy. Let's see how he does with Sunderland

Yes I like that as well. Hes very much his own man as the playing staff will find out if he is appointed. Dont take anything for granted though but as it appears that he has resigned his position as manager it looks like he wants to come to us.

Both Martinez and Rodgers promote a decent style of football that is easy on the eye but ive been with Paul Lambert since the day Alex McCleish was dismissed.

We might just have another Ron Saunders in the making if he signs on the line.

and then after all this stress we can forget bloody football and clear off on holiday!

SSN say they have contacted Norwich for confirmation Lambert has resigned and are waiting on a reply. Probably have to wait for Delia to get into her office at carrow Road and check the fax machine.

The last guy to get Norwich promoted and end up at Villa was Ron Saunders. No pressure Paul.
