Wasn't Bent the one convinced it would be Lambert? If so then he can't be unhappy with the appointment. I hope we find a young target man though and not Holt.

I wouldn't complain at Bent and Holt upfront next season with 35 goals between them.
I hope he doesn't bring Holt with him.
31 and i'm convinced he's a (Premier) one season wonder.

I also think that Ruddy is a poor keeper as well.

The whole MON resemblence thing does grate with me i admit, but i'm hoping there's a bit more depth to him than MON. Certainly he's not a chequebook manager like MON

If him being like MON means we have wembley visits and top6 finishes - I'll take that over the last two seasons.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll be making £20 million plus net outlays each summer and (fortunately) won't be maxing out on player wages. I doubt mon would take us to top 6 finishes with the current squad and strategy. Let's see how he does with Sunderland

Can someone tell me why he is supposed to be like MON?

I think they were at Celtic together, and MON is a kind of mentor to him in his managerial career, like Neil Lennon.

Lambert and Villa, and Rodgers and Liverpool actually suit both clubs very well.

I prefer Rodgers as a manager but he is more suited to Liverpool than Villa with the players at his disposal...similarly I think Lambert will do a better job at Villa than Rodgers would have been able to do for the same reasons.

It would have taken a long time and transfer activity for Rodgers to get his playing style working here, and I feel Lambert will be able to adjust and use the playing resources and funds at his disposal more effectively in the short term. It wont take long for Rodgers to get Liverpool playing the way he wants them to, and I believe theres more chance of Lambert putting us back in the top 10 than Rodgers would have done next season.

Really good points there. I think you're right. I also think Lambert has that steely side to him that we need in terms of finally making decisions over the likes of Dunne, Collins and Warnock. Long overdue.

Above all else, what I like about Lambert is that he seems able to work with moderately-talented players and get them playing well, playing above themselves. He can spot a footballer.

he will be our own version of David Moyes, in ten years time people will be saying
'he's done great at Villa with limited resources, OK they havent won anything , but they have consistantly finished in the top 8 most seasons'

for those who really wanted Moyes, you have just got the younger version

I think you're right John.  The club thought they were getting the new Moyes last year apparently, but they actually got the new Barry Fry.

I think it's funny that with all the bile, abuse and insults aimed at AM over the months you seem to have calmly and effortlessly topped the lot.

I've said it before I've seen Norwich play some decent stuff and pass the ball around, I'm convinced Lambert is not a complete long ball merchant. I'd be happy to have him appointed, but please don't bring Holt. Too old, too expensive and almost certainly a one season wonder.

I think Lambert is more adaptable and pragmatic than Rodgers. Rodgers is 'pass or die', which wouldn't suit Villa at the moment. As GH found out when he tried to graft on a passing style football to a MON 11.

agreed. think its unlikely he will buy Holt though seeing we need players all over the team and the forward line is probably the one area we're okay in.

I think a bit of revisionist history is going on here. Wasn't too many days ago that 'pubehead' was getting a right old roasting on these pages, and even before PL has been annointed we've got all these comparisons going on. It's like the written equivalent of Pubehead and mini Pubehead's Greatest Hits Volume 1.

Right, I'm still pissed from last night, but I keep reading and re-reading this and still have no idea what your point is.

No its the other way round. Up until he left the vast majority on here highly regarded MON, but since he left have tried to paint him as a poor manager. The fact that some are worried that our new manager may be a younger version of MON is laughable, I hope they're right! Perhaps we could change the name of the site to 'we're all Greg Nash now' ;)

From what I've seen of Lambert's Norwich side, they can pass it or play it long, and do both quite effectively.  I like a manager that can vary tactics and style, based on what is most likely to win a game, and that's one of the reason I'm in favour of Lambert.

With a striker like Bent, playing long as he did to Holt won't work, so I think we'll see more short passing to get us into the final third.  I also don't see him signing Holt, but wouldn't object to Pilkington.

we are 2nd favourite to sign Grant Holt at 7/4    behind errrr   Sunderland who are 5/4

but they are not similar any any way, obviously

Wouldn't say we are OK up front. Paper thin when DB got injured last season Gabby , Weimann and The Fonz!!), plus we've lost Heskey - for what he was worth.

From the article posted in the Guardian he also appears to regularly rotate his formation according to the opposition and sometimes during a match.  That's certainly nothing like MON.
